At my school, we use both the achievement standards and content descriptors to assess student learning. We also moderate or assessment with cross marking among team members. We measure student growth with our rubrics, class engagement and student voice data.

Every term we take a staff meeting to moderate a piece of work against the standards in our teaching teams. As we move through this process, we are getting better at ensuring our work samples are linked to the standards and we are able to distinguish between the levels.

This will be an area for development as we progress with the integration of Inquiry and RE. Learning tasks are linked to the achievement standards in the development of units, however auditing of student evidence is yet to be built in explicitly. A goal for 2022!

When designing units, we often work backwards and design our assessment task early on so we know what we are working towards. Rich teacher discussion often occurs as we often struggle to agree upon whether task are addressing the different strands. Our resulting assessments are usually reasonably rich, however the big questions is - how are you measuring growth not just achievement?

When reviewing the assessments from this year, I notice that those with the strongest connection to the achievement standards are also those that have been authentically linked to the inquiry focus. It is through these experiences that we are asking students to identify, explain, articulate, consider, reflect and interpret.
