With year round school we can spend less time on review on subjects that we have already learned, like science and math. My claim is right because, kids over the summer don’t study or do something to retain the knowledge they gained the previous year, so it ends up fading away. So year round school can lead to less knowledge lost for example from Year-round Education program guide, “the loss of retention of information that occurs during the three-month summer vacation is minimized by the shorter, more frequent vacations that characterize year-round calendars.” Which means that it can be more beneficial to them the outdated summer break.

https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/fa/yr/guide.asp

We should be allowed to have our phones in school because some parents like mine DON’T answer the school phones, mine only really answer my personal phone. We also shouldn’t have our phones taken away, it is our personal property after all. You wouldn’t want me to take away your phone for some stupid reason would you?? It also seems using computers or phones is much more environmentally friendly. My claim is probably right because I have personal experience with not being able to contact my mom or dad because they wouldn’t answer the school phones. My claim is also might be correct because from the site, “student-tutor.com/blog/cell-phones-in-school/” states, “The paperless initiative has helped organizations save time, save money, and save the planet all at once.” Another site states, “While it may be cheaper to use more toxic materials when building devices, electronics manufacturers are being urged to invest in eco-friendlier materials.” So it might be better to have electronics because we could be getting more eco-friendly electronics in the future and we are not wasting paper.

Sami Manwaring: Core classes should only be taught at school. When you think about it, colleges only look at your core class grades, it’s not like a college is going to reject you because you got an F in cooking. Although electives are good for character building skills, they still don’t matter when it comes to your future education. Why waste 4 hours of your day learning things that won’t affect you in your future life? Electives can also be good because they are a way to have a break from your core classes but why need a break if you could just be home 4 hours early instead? As you can see, although electives can be good for social skills, they won’t help you in your life beyond school and should not be taught at schools.

Ipads can have information that textbooks might not have like things about the past or information on the Holocaust.

Students need phones in class because it would be so easy to have on hand, we would be able to text our moms if they needed us. Or if something happened we would be able to get a lot more help for having phones in class. A lot of people think phones are the reason kids' grades are going down. But if they allowed us to have phones in class we would be able to use it for school work. And what would happen if there was a fire and we were stuck in the building with no phone. How would anyone know to help? On a website I read it said. “ If smartphones are allowed in school, students will have easy access to more information and therefore will be more participate during class discussion. Being able to search up facts in just a few clicks is one of the biggest advantages of using technology.” In 7th grade I forgot my Chromebook so I asked if I could use my phone and they said yes. This is a good story because if they said no I would have got behind .

Schools in America should replace books with tablets. Tablets have many abilities that textbooks don’t have. For example, Britannica tells us that, “Tablets contain many technological features that cannot be found in print textbooks. Print textbooks are heavy and cause injuries, while a tablet only weighs 1-2 pounds. Tablets help students better prepare for a world immersed in technology.” This clearly shows that tablets are an upgrade from using printed textbooks, and should be used in all schools.

Kids should have their driver's license at 13 so they can go to friends houses and fast food places without wasting time and energy. Many people have to either walk or ride a bike or skateboard and that is a waste of time and energy. I believe that kids should get their license at 13 because I used to have an ATV and it was a big life saver. I used to live in New Mexico and all my friends were very spread out, so me and my dad got ATV’s and we would always drive around to fast foods, peoples houses, and for fun. The one drawback was gas money, gas was not cheap but if you really commit to the work then you’re all set. By giving kids their license at 13, they can do all these things with some hard work and commitment.

Dylan Transtrum: With I pads in classes instead of books students can find many different types of knowledge in a few seconds. If a student wants to learn how to be a salesman or maybe an office worker. They can find more resources on the internet than a single book. During the past few years, technology such as i Pads has been a growing trend in classrooms. Students are slowly being drawn away from text books and introduced to digital books on i Pads. This study seeks to gain insights into the effectiveness of the implementation of technology in early childhood classrooms.

Yes, kids that dont put the time and effort into the school work should have summer school which would make them have to be in school all year round. In the article it states that us students would not focus because we would not have the time to rewind and have fun because we have been in school. “Some childhood development experts believe that particularly when it comes to younger students, time off in the summer months is a vital component of healthy development. The argument follows that kids are not designed to spend so much of their time inside classroom walls and that the warmer, pleasant weather of the summer provides a perfect opportunity to get outside and experience childhood."

We should be allowed to have cellphones in class but not be allowed to use them. We should be allowed to be able to listen to music when appropriate. We would work a lot better and quieter if we had music in our ears while doing work. Being occupied by our favorite music would make us interested in school. Music helps concentrate and memory. Aaron always slumped over in English doing nothing. In Science he does a lot of work when Ms Stiggy lets him have airpods in. This shows why we should be able to have phones in class and how beneficial it would be to our school.

Aliyah Jones My claim is, 4 day school is less stressful for students, because they can get their work caught up. It would also help the teachers. This gives the students an extra day on the weekend. The teachers get an extra day of grading. I feel like 4 day school would be helpful because kids could strengthen their relationship and help getting work done. According to 4-Day School Weeks: New Research Examines the Benefits … it says, "The four-day week is enormously popular among parents and students, the new research finds. It typically saves districts a small—but not intangible—amount of cash. And on their day out of school, students are typically working, doing errands, or spending time with family, not running wild." This explains why it is helpful for students to have a 4 day weekend and not have that much stress.

By letting people have more free time then it can cause less stress and more creativity.

Children are constantly surrounded with unsafe things all the time, weather that be vapes, drugs, alcohol, and even guns and other weapons. School should be a safe place where kids can be free of any dangerous out of school things. Yet, there are still weapons and drugs in schools every day. And one place where those dangerous things can be stored, is in lockers. So more locker searches should be done to ensure that schools are safe. Another thing proving that locker checks should be done on a regular basis is the fact that it is an effective tool to find contraband quickly. I know people that have brought Marijuana and hidden it in a pencil box that was inside of their locker. As soon as the school checked the locker of that particular student, they found and confiscated the drug. They found the same drug in the friends lockers as well. Once again proving that locker searches can be beneficial to finding unsafe things on school grounds.

Seats that schools normally have are very uncomfortable and lead to back aches, high stress levels, lack of blood circulation, etc. For Example, A report by “American School and University” states “Conventional chairs many classrooms have rigid seats that inclines backwards and connects to the seat which may cause lack of blood circulation; a rounding of the back; tense shoulders, neck and back muscles; a spinal cord that is pressed to one side; and a constriction of the digestive organs.” As you can see, making a slight change in our classroom's seating could help students a lot with their studies and stress levels.

Theres lots of dangers to driving and wouldn't teens be distracted? There are lots of dangers to driving and the kid may be on their phone driving and they can crash and somewhat get hurt. There are also a lot of crashes with 16 year olds who had just got their license, so why would we let 13 year olds drive when 16 year olds get in car crashes to from being on their phone or a distraction. They may crash into other cars, trees, or other, things that can harm them. We shouldn't let 13 year olds have a drives licenses.

My claim is right because it gives them an extra day to rest and process the work they did over the week.It increases student attendance here a quote from https://www.theedadvocate.org/what-are-the-pros-and-cons-4-day-school-weeks/ “Rural areas report that their student attendance has increased since switching to the 4-day school week. Since many of the families in these areas run farms, it gives families extra time to get work done during the week. As a result, students don’t have to miss school to help out.” This evidence proves it because it shows one of the pros. It also shows how it is benificial. Schools just add 40 minutes to replace the time missed on that fifth day.

Students should only have to go to school 4 days a week. This way the students will have more rest and will be able to have more time for themselves, it will put less pressure on them. Multiple students agree that they should have Fridays off. Especially since the majority of schools have late start Fridays. Therefore there isn't any use in going to school Fridays. Having no school on Fridays will give students more time for themselves and let them go at their own pace to do school work. Another reason why students shouldn't have school Fridays is because at the start of the pandemic, student didn't have school on Fridays. Instead, students had an online learning day. This made it so they could do the work at their own pace without being stressed. Many people agree that working on a tight schedule on Fridays can be stressful. You feel as if you have less time and you have to rush to finish your work. Therefore, having this extra day for students to do work at their own pace will have them less stressed and they will be able to rest more.

With the privilege given to us we are able to act how we are treated and be trusted and prepared for our world outside of school. Because of a couple people's mistakes, not everybody should be punished. Consequences can stand for the people causing the issue. Last year while we were in school, we were able to have our phones if we stayed off of them and didn't cause distraction. If there was a distraction, that person could be individually punished, but until there is a school wide issue or there is a vote where people get a say in what happens, we should be left with this privilege. We could also have an emergency like a fire and none of us would get our phones back and some people can not afford to just get more expensive things like that because we were not trusted.

I think that kids should be able to use personal laptops in class, because some kids don't want to pay 700$ for a school computer if it gets broken. For example when I play games in my free time it makes my mood and emotional state happier and makes me calmer. If all kids with mental problems such as ADD, Anxiety, and Depression could be calm and happier it would make them do better in school. Another example is that it is scientifically proven that happier kids do better in school. In this excerpt from futures.edu, It says, “Happier students receive better grades in the future. And those who got better grades saw their happiness increase…” This proves that kids could have better grades in school. One final reason is I think that kids should be allowed to take personal laptops to school is because some families can't afford a replacement Chromebook in case it gets broken.

In the article, “Why Should Teachers Be Paid More?” by Samual, it states, “...while the average person may not know what work a teacher usually does, they can see that a teacher teaches a class full of kids. While this may seem like an easy thing to do, and therefore leads many to assume that it’s fair to pay teachers whatever they are being produced at the moment, there is more to a teacher’s job than what meets the eye.”. This is great at showing how teachers are really good at not just teaching at great levels but they are fantastic with trying to work with their kids. It also says, “Teaching is such a stressful job that about half of all teachers quit their jobs within five years… classes are too full, the work-hours are too long, there is a massive load of extra-curricular work, and of course, the pay is too little. Teaching is the fourth most stressful job in America, which may not sound very bad until one hears that the people with the top three most stressful jobs are police officers, military personnel, and working parents.”. Teachers have a lot on their shoulders and more making it clear that they should be able to get better pay because it all goes back to them and what they do.

it think Cell phones should be in class with us because like if there was a fire alarm we can take them outside and if we don’t remember their parents number we can look at their phone and the school won't get sued because they were with us instead of being luckier. The school won't lose money and parents don't have to buy a new one for us so it will make it easier for everyone else. The school takes a phone all the time and i think it's not fair because its are won property.

Sudents should be allowed to have cellphones in class. My claim is important for kids to stay in contact with their parents in case of emergencies. Phones are also very useful and have tools and apps that can help students out. These tools also remind students to do their homework ect. In the article, Why Cell phones Should be Allowed in School, It states, “Cell phones give students access to tools and apps that can help them complete and stay on top of their classwork. These tools can also teach students to develop better study habits, like time management and organization skills.” This shows why students need their phones in class.

Ipads Should be replaced with books. If we were to replace books with Ipads, we would be able to get much more info than most books. Many books that teachers are teaching us with are very old. We would be able to learn more info about a book with on a Ipad with most of the research. We would also be able to keep more information organized into one. If we all carried a Ipad we probably wouldn't need to have a locker. Now that the population is growing and the years go on we should start upgrading to technology and better things to use

In my point of view we should be able to have our phones in our class because there could be another person who needs to be on it in case there is an emergency situation. Also, if your phone is in your locker people could steal it, that’s another reason to have it with you in class. In other words it could help other people who do sports or need to answer important emails. Some parents want to call or be updated with their kids and be able to be aware of them at every time possible. It would be better, safe, and reasonable to have your phone in class.

If the school administration made it so we had school and not summer that would be chaos. The whole school would be mad. Some students are super disrespectful and would cause so much stress on the teachers that have them. The students would only get a few breaks like Christmas break and stuff like that. The kids and teachers would not be happy it creates more work for both and the kids would be stressed just like the teachers.

Allowing cellphones in class can teach kids to use them as a tool and not a toy. My claim is right because they can teach how we can use our phones appropriately and as a tool such as a planner that could keep us up to date with assignments and can help our grades stay up. In previous years where I have been able to have my phone in class I have been able to get my work done faster and my grades were better because I used a list and made sure all my assignments were done and turned in on time.

My claim is right because a 13 year old should have the capability to drive around town. It always good to had a young driver with you because something bad could happen to you and you cant drive you have a young driver who knows how to drive and follow the law.A quote for my claim is “Young drivers are supposed to be hard on equipment. That’s how you learn.” - Mario Andretti. Or like if you got into a crash and had another car to drive home but you were injured so bad to the point where you weren’t suitable to drive, then you can have your 13 year old drive you back home or to another guardians house.

Online classrooms are horrible for growing children and their learning. Over sixth grade online learning was my and many others' reality. My mother is a teacher and she has explained to me that online learning is horrible, growing children need to interact with their teachers. It messes with their ability to recognize others emotions because how is a child supposed to tell if someone is smiling when they have a mask on their face. Also online paper work is able to be deleted and erased, data transfers could cause you to lose your papers. There could be very important documents that are easily lost due to technology malfunctions.

Driving at the age of thirteen would be so cool, because I could get to places faster than riding on a bike or on foot. I'm sometimes late to my sports but with a car I can make it on time. Car's can get you so far in so little time. It would help me and my mom if I could drive at this age.
