         <title>Villa Crivelli </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Located in Mombello, Limbiate,  Villa Pusterla Crivelli is well known around the world for its beautiful architecture and interesting backstory.<br>The villa is named after Margherita Pusterla, a novel by Cesare Cantù&nbsp; published in 1838.<br>the Carcano family, during the early Middle Ages, decided to transform the building into a palace.&nbsp;<br>in 1543 the palace passed to the Arconati family, that turned it into an elegant country house.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1719 the villa passed to the Crivelli family, that turned it into a beautiful villa.<br>And in the second half of the 1700 Luigi Castiglioni, a famous biologist imported many plants into the garden of the villa.<br>In 1797 the villa became the headquarter of Napoleone.<br>in  1819 Ferdinando Crivelli sold the villa to a rich family and later, in  1865, it became property of the Italian state that turned it into a psychiatric hospital.<br>In 1978 the hospital was closed and the villa became a school.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The destiny of villa as always been conncted to the history of Italy expecially with wars for "Lombardia" and the following control by Spain, and the next dominion by the Asburgo, with their importance real estate registry.<br>At that time the villa was property of the Crivelli family who supported the Austrian and that's why <strong>Napoleon </strong>chose the villa as his <strong>headquarter in the 1797.</strong><br>After the first world war the villa became a<strong> "nuthouse"</strong> for the survivors that came back traumatised.<br>In this "nuthouse" was hospitalised Albino Benito Berardi, <strong>the illegittimate son of Mussolini </strong>diagnosed with a paranoic disorder, he died in 1942.<br>After the <strong>Basaglia's law in 1978</strong> all the nuthouses had been closed and the villa became a psichiatric hospital that was definitely close in 1999.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Near the year 1580 Anna Visconti wanted to restruturate the villa with the help of Martino Bassi, the architet of the Duomo.<br>He builted a porch, that later was closed, when the villa was used as a sanitary.<br>Later Luigi wanted another porch, that was used as a passage from the south wing to the north wing.<br>Near the 1750 Stefano Crivelli requedted the intervent of Francesco Croce, he rebuilted the north wing, he builted a staircase in the north wing and a space near the nobile court.<br>Later with Carlo Soave the east and south where redisegned in neoclassic stile.<br>When the villa became the psichiatric ospital, the pourt was closed<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong><em>The balcony and the garden</em></strong><br>The terrace was very different when it was built, it was transformed by Francesco Croce, the central stairs were inglobated by the new stairs.<br>The garden was realised in Italian style, with very precise geometric forms, fountains and statues, these things were used to express the ideals of harmony and balance.<br><br><em>T</em><strong><em>he garden today and the facades </em></strong><br>Today the garden is realized by the students and the teachers.<br>The North wing is different from the other wings, because it has been realised in the '700 by Francesco Croce in Baroque style</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This fresco is painted by Borroni, it shows an old man, Chronos, the titan of the time, he is the father of Zeus, Poseidon and Ade, in the left hand  he is holding a scythe, it rapresents death, and is the rapresentation of Carlo VI, the roses in the fresco have the same meaning, the death.<br>This fresco represents the cycle of the life.<br>In this fresco there are two women, one of them representst fertility and  life; so the whole fresco symbolizes the cycle of  life.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This fresco is in a room called " del cannocchiale" because Napoleon used to stay in that room when the enemies were coming.<br>The fresco rapresents three entitis, one of them is Hercules, that rapresents Carlo VI that domesticated a lion, because of his power, this is a comparison of the French domination.<br>We can see a "vittoria alata", a symbol of rebirth, this is a big figure because it represents the daughter of Carlo VI, the one that ascend to the throne, this figure is represented in front of her fathers' funeral pyre, there is an angel that is carrying a crown for the new queen after Carlo VI death.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In  1865&nbsp; the director of the "nuthouse" Senavra" Cesare Castiglioni proposed to move some of the patients to Mombello.<br>The first patients were more calm, they were used to work in fields.<br>In the next years&nbsp; Mombello became the biggest "nuthouse" in the region Lombardia.<br>Later the nuthouse was extended, in some periods it contained more than 4000 patients.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The patients were used for many activities.<br>The most spread diseases were sexual trasmissble like syphilis, the Pellagra caused by a poor diet.<br>In the 1915 many war veterans, traumatised by the war,&nbsp; were hospialized in this nuthouse, often they were treated with lobothomy that left them in a vegetative state, with electroshock or with insulin injections that caused a coma.<br>In the 1978 the Basaglia's Law lead to the closure of all the nuthouses.</div>]]></description>
