PLNs give boader prospective of societal and cultural issues in other areas of the world by having personal relationships with people outside of a persons physical geographic. This can be useful when paired with a classes curriculum.

PLNs are a free way to bring in guest speakers without having to have the speaker present. By meeting people online in other parts of the world, a skype like tool can be used to bring a culturally diverse person into the classroom without having the person be physically present.

PLNs help engage students who may not be engaged from typical classroom methods. Using an online community, students may be more interested to learn rather than using a textbook.
