         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the 1820s, Basutoland was founded by Moshoesho I, uniting various Sotho groups, who had fled preditation by the Zulus. Basutoland is the former name of Lesotho. Lesotho gained independence on October 4, 1966. In January of 1970, the ruling Basotho National Party (BNP) set to lose the first post-independence general elections, until it was annulled by the prime minister of the time. He refused to cede power to the Basotho Congress Party (BCP) and imprisoned it's leadership.</div>]]></description>
