The beginning was quite boring, and the action did not take off until later in the novel. You mought call me Captain.” (2).  He settles at a quite unvisited inn, which makes him sketchy to me.  The author hints this when he writes, “... very little company, the more was pity… well then, this is berth for me.”(2).  A seafaring man who settles at a quiet inn foreshadows that he might be followed soon.  Billy Bones enters the inn with a chest that seems important, and he pays the main character, Jim, to watch for any other seafaring men.  The man has a liking for young Jim, and treats him like a son.  Jim is fascinated and scared by the man, but he never lets fear stand in his way.  Bones is only in the novel in the beginning before dying, but he leaves behind the chest that leads to voyage.  He sparks Jim’s interest in adventure and the sea, as well as introduces pirates to the readers.  Billy remains relevant after his death due to the maps and directions that Jim finds.  The crew realizes the importance of his maps and accounts when the Squire says, “This is the black hearted hound’s account book.”(33).  The book sparks the idea to take the voyage and changes Jim’s life in a huge way.  Billy Bones only appears in the first few chapters as a minor character, but influences the book in a huge way. ]]> 2018-03-27 14:03:58 UTC https://padlet.com/rrunni2093/1jkfck9g0uvw/wish/246502716
