What’s working?
The modules are user friendly and easier to use than I thought. My mentor teacher is AMAZING and we really click at far as teaching styles go. My team mates are great too!

What neeeds work?
Reaching students with learning disabilities; how can I best serve them?
Managing my time and getting everything done in due time.

Any revelations?
Classroom management is the first step to learning. Near to non-existent. How can we compete with global economy without a solid science foundation?

What’s working?
Connecting with students and getting oodles of hands on experience both observing and instructing.

What needs work?
My time management skills (which always kind of suck in general).
Too tired after sometimes to get much done. Need to rethink how I plan out my day kind of... it feels wrong to me I am not putting as much time into the books as I probably should be.

Conundrums:
Your energy you have each day to pursue tasks is finite. There is a performing art component to teaching. You are putting on a special show to get the students to learn things. If it is dull for them they are not going to retain a whole lot.
You want to have them be engaged in the material. This is actually one of my favorite things and is part of that inclusiveness and differentiated instruction theme people ahead of us who are in book four were on about.

The art of making the curriculum interesting to the kids and getting it to be personally relevant to each of them is not a bad thing. It makes it stick with a student better.
Children need encouragement. You have to be more positive than you may be just talking to a fellow adult because if they aren’t being told they are doing a good job for trying all this continually new stuff as they go through knowledge acquisition it will not be rewarding for them and then they aren’t going to be into it.

My parents and to an extent my mentor teacher are kind of against my (over)use of technology... so... I have to do a lot of the online bits offline... more. “That’s great but could you do it more face to face with people and just on paper and not be on the computer and Internet?” seems a common refrain. I’m not sure how they expect that part to work... so I just work through it (“But he had a hat!”). There are just so many Amish 21st Century learning jokes I can make about this too...

Revelations: I love writing. I don’t love not having sit down think time. This is an important thing to schedule some in each day.

I really like the teachers I am working with.
What’s Not Working?
I need to work on getting my skills up with technology because it slows me down and wastes a lot of my time.
Any Revelations?
In my classroom, I am working with two teachers in a job share and I’ve noticed the kids act very differently depending on which teacher is there that day. That was very eye opening to me.
Any Conundrums?
So far, no, but I’m only 2 weeks into my classroom so I’m mostly observing.
