         <title>Long-shore Drift</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In order to record long-shore drift, we tied an orange to a ball of yarn and threw the orange into the sea. We then marked the exact spot where we first threw the orange into the sea by placing a ranging pole in order to be able to accurately measure the distance which the orange has traveled after the three minutes are up. We made sure that there was a lot of slack on the yarn when we threw it into the sea to ensure that our own tugs or pulls will not affect the results of the long-shore drift experiment. <br>On our first try, we found that the orange traveled in the North-East direction and it traveled a total of 600cm.<br>On our Second try, the orange also traveled in the North-East direction and this time a total of 570cm.<br>On our third and final try, we found that the results were slightly peculiar and were a bit different. This time we found that the orange traveled in the North-West direction instead and traveled a much shorter distance in comparison to the first two tries at only 213cm. We hypothesize that these sudden changes were caused by a sudden change in wind direction thus making the orange move in a different direction and also causing it to move a much shorter distance.<br>The average distance traveled by the orange in these three experiments was 461cm.<br>From this, we can infer that the long-shore drift moves in a North-East direction.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Beach Profile</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In order to record the beach profile, we measured the profile of the beach from the low-tide mark upwards. We placed a ranging pole at the first break of slope and another at the second break to ensure the surface of the sand just covers the black metal tip of the pole. We got one member to stand by the reference mark and point the clinometer at his/her eye level to the equivalent height on the other ranging pole held by another group member. By doing so, we managed to record the angle of the segment slopes in degrees. For us to measure the ground distance of the beach profile, we used a tape measure to measure from the base of the reference point to the first ranging pole. The observer then proceeds to the ranging pole placed at the second break of slope and repeats the process until the end point of the profile. <br>From point A to B with A being the shoreline and the start of the beach, the slope segment was 103 centimeters long with the angle of the slope being 70 degrees. <br>From point B to C being the foreshore, the slope segment was 201 centimeters with the angle of the slope being 60 degrees.<br>Lastly, from point C to D with D being the backshore/ending point of the beach profile, the slope segment was 94.5 centimeters with the angle of the slope being 60 degrees too.<br>  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Sediment</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In order to record the sediment size and shape, we first placed a quadrat on the shoreline. We then used a spoon to scoop up sand from the four corners and the center. After that, we compared the sediments against a particle size card, and recorded the size, shape and sorting of the sediments, and continued collecting the results from the other areas chosen.<br>(foreshore/backshore/berm)<br>The sediments at segment A-B were very coarse, and was of shapes around 0.9 to about 0.7, and were poorly sorted. <br>The sediment size at segment B-C were coarse, and had a shape of around 0.7 to 0.3, and were poorly sorted. <br>The sediment size at segment C-D were coarse, and had a shape of around 0.7 to 0.5, and were poorly sorted as well.</div>]]></description>
