Alban, personal communication January 24, 2019).  They show the second highest rate of depression when compared to fifty five other careers (Stiglbauer & Zuber, 2018).  Educators are “helping professionals,” meaning they do more than teach content; often times, they provide emotional and mental health supports to students living with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) (Fowler, 2015).  Teachers are school leaders, mentors, nurses and counselors, filling the role necessary in the moment.  Teaching is compared to other high stress careers, such as paramedics, police officers and social workers (Koenig et al, 2018). These multiple roles can clash with one another or clash with the instruction creating a value discrepancy between the teacher and the policy initiatives implemented by government agencies.  As a result, the teaching profession may be losing qualified educators due to policy changes at the county, state and federal levels and an increase in student diversity, specifically, children who experience trauma.
