Date: April, 1775

Location: Boston, Lexington, and Concord

Recap in your own words: The British were looking for the arsenal that the colonists had somewhere hidden. British and colonists fought in Lexington first with the colonial militia. In Lexington the "shot heard round the world" was shot. This shot is called this because it created a domino effect all around the world. Then they fought in Concord. The colonists had blocked the bridge here which gave them some time to recruit more people to fight. Then minutemen followed/chased the British back to Boston. The British retreated because they were outnumbered.

Who won and why: The British won the battle of Lexington and the Colonists won the battle of Concord because the British were outnumbered.

Livingston, and Thomas Jefferson drafted the declaration of independence. The declaration of Independence was created to declare that the colonists no longer wanted to be part of the British empire. They wanted to be their own government now. Some things included in the document were that people had the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It also states that all man are created equal.

Who won and why: The colonists technically won here since they were the ones declaring their independence.

This is the turning point of the war because the French stepped in to help with ships and men. Since the British did not have a good messaging system their back up men could not come in fast enough. French helped the colonists defeat the British.

Who won and why: The British Soldiers surrendered to the colonists so the colonists won and they gained control to the Northern Colonies.

Date: October, 1781

Location: Virginia

Recap in your own words:
Morale was low on the colonial side because France had to cut off aid, the colonists had big southern losses, there growing concerns of mutiny, and soldiers were not getting paid. Commander Cornwallis kept disregarding Clinton's orders which made Clinton not so confident about winning at Virginia. The British had full control of the water but little did they know that the French were going to take over Chesapeake Bay. The French won this sea battle and the British retreated. Small forts were place in Yorktown by the British so it would be harder for the colonists to reach them. The colonists bombarded the British day and night not allowing them to rebuild their defenses. The colonists overwhelmed the British and won.

Who won and why: The colonists won because the British commandeer Cornwallis had surrendered.
