The teacher will elicit from students everything they know about alcohol and add the information pupils don’t know. This activity will establish the prior knowledge that students have and connect it to new one. During this activity visual and auditory learners will be involved.

 

2.     Introduction of new vocabulary. (behaviorism- structured material provided by the teacher)    

The teacher will introduce the new vocabulary with the help of PowerPoint presentation. The presentation will be built from few different components: word, it’s definition and a picture. The teacher will go over the slides, will read, explain (including the use of facial expressions and body language if needed).  The activity will be very helpful for various types of learners, such as visual, read/write and auditory learners.

 

3.     Guest presentation. (constructionist approach- active story telling)

Teenager (past alcohol abuser) will come in and tell his/her life story. The guest will bring pictures, diary and will give examples how alcohol abuse affected his/her life and reasons why he/she started the alcohol abuse journey in the first place. During this activity visual and auditory learners will be involved.

 

4.     Interview. (humanistic approach)

Students will ask the guest different questions. This activity will give them an opportunity to practice (reinforce new vocabulary).
During this activity visual, kinesthetic and auditory learners will be involved.

 

5.     Discussion. (social cognitive approach)

The teacher will discuss next topics with students:

guest’s life choices

their feelings (do they empathize with the guest)

do they think the guest is irresponsible?   
This can be done in different manner: the teacher will divide the class in the groups,each group will discuss different subject. The representative of a group will introduce to entire class his/her group's conclusions. During this activity visual, kinesthetic and auditory learners will be involved.

  

6.     Students will write a reflection on the lesson on their personal Padlet wall and share the link with the rest of the class. This activity encourages free recall of the information that students learned during the lesson.During this activity read/write learners will be involved.

Students will answer YouTube quiz and write down their answers. This activity will establish the prior knowledge that students have. The activity will be very helpful for various types of learners, such as visual, read/write,kinesthetic and auditory learners.

The teacher will discuss the quiz with students without revealing the correct answers. The teacher will introduce (elicit from students) the new vocabulary during the discussion. This activity will connect the prior knowledge to the new one. During this activity  auditory learners will be  involved.

 

3.     Guest presentation. (constructionist approach- active storytelling)

The teacher will invite a doctor. He/she will explain the effects that alcohol abuse has on the human body with the help of video and different plastic realia. The lecturer together with students will conduct a virtual scientific experience,that will show the effects of alcohol on human body. This activity will help visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners.

  

4.     Correction of the quiz answers. (behaviorist approach)

Students will revise the quiz answer after meeting with the doctor and correct their answer accordingly. During this activity read/write, kinesthetic learners will be involved.

 

5.     The teacher will assign homework for students: write a reflection on meeting with the doctor on their personal Padlet wall and share the link with the rest of the class. This activity encourages free recall of the information that students learned during the lesson.

The teacher will divide the class into groups. Each group will research online and discuss between themselves one of the next subjects:

history and development of alcohol 

compare and contrast two countries (amounts of consumed alcohol, connection of alcohol to the culture, statistics on car accidents, diseases - connected to alcohol)

pros and cons of alcohol

This activity will benefit visual, auditory, read/write and kinesthetic learners.

 

2.     Research outcome. 

The teacher will give students instructions on how to write a paragraph, introduce them the connective words. Students will write an essay on the outcome of the research.

Read/write learners will appreciate this activity.

 

3.     Unseen. (behaviorism- structured material provided by the teacher)

The teacher will hand out the informative text about social media and peer pressure.  

Students will read the text and accomplish the worksheet. 

Read/write learners will appreciate this activity.

4.     Individual research. (constructive approach)

Students will search online as many as they can find things connected to the alcohol (videos, advertisements, pictures) and share it with the rest of the class. Students will explain the reason they chose the specific video/ad/picture. 

This activity will benefit visual, auditory, read/write and kinesthetic learners.

 

5.     Summative assignment. 

Students will create posters of their own about one of the subjects that they learned during those three lessons and found the most interesting.

This activity encourages free recall of the information and use of the learned skills/vocabulary that was acquired. This activity will benefit visual, auditory, read/write and kinesthetic learners.
