The Federalist Papers, written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison, were written to convince Anti-Federalists to sign the ratification of the Constitution. This was done by reassuring the people that they would maintain their natural rights through the Bill of Rights. They also showed the people that, through elections, separation of powers, and checks and balances, the government would not become too powerful, and be a repeat of the monarchy the American people had just escaped.

The Ratification of the Constitution depended on nine out of the thirteen colonies voting for the Constitution. Anti-Federalists opposed the document while Federalist supported it. Delaware was the first of the states to ratify on December 7th, 1787 and New Hampshire was the last to ratify on June 22nd, 1788. The Constitution was finally established on March 9th, 1789.
