I had an amazing experience. I was last year to a different university and I must say that was a total nightmare, so I withdrawn. Hertfordshire University made me feel so good from the first day of my induction, the team was very friendly and patient. There are also lots of activity's and we also received nice gifts. Compare to the other uni that I was, where they didn't give us a free bottle of water or a proper induction (was all rude employees and unfair making difference between students and if you was opening your mouth to say your point, they would have punished you). I must say that at Herts i feel like is my home, I never though I will like it so much, I spend my time in library every day and I also come on weekends sometimes all way from London, because here I find peace, trust, friendly & fun team, they all so helpful. Thank you Herts for being so good and for accepting me. Keep it up with this great work you do and with the great team you got and specially the teachers. I love Herts and I will recommend it to everyone and also I want my son to come here, when he will finish his school.
Mirela Denisa C.

It was daunting since I am an international student and I wasn't sure if I would be able to pick them up. But once I arrived here the staff and other students were very friendly and helpful which more than makes up for the missing information about arrival. Also there was little information regarding meals and where to eat so that made it difficult to adjust for the first few days.
SK

I did not arrive during the airport pick up dates. We had a cab booked that took us to the Uni. It was my first time studying abroad (I've never left the country to study before). As we reached College Lane, we came across quite a few problems.
1) There was no proper signage on where should we register. ( The driver isn't familiar with the Uni either. Thus, he left us at the Main reception). As an international student the first place to find our way would be the Main Reception. The driver left us with our luggage. As we entered in the Main Reception we were told that we'll have to go to Hutton Hub an was shown how to make our way to Hutton Hub. It was already a tiring 18hrs flight duration and we were told to push all of our luggage to Hutton Hub ( I was with my mom and she was a slip-disc patient).
2. Accommodation Not Fulfilled as promised. When I applied for the accommodation, I was guaranteed by the office in my home country for an en-suite at De Have as I've requested for De Have. On arrival here, the management tells me there is no accommodation arranged despite my accommodation request sent in. As an international student and a first year and first time coming to the UK, it was very alarming to us. We had to pay half for the hotel while the uni took the other half. It's unfair especially when I had to pay for the rental of telford court once I was given an accommodation a week later.
3. Telford Court was a very bad experience. Food stolen, Dirty, never kept clean by other flatmates. RA's were useless, despite all the complains. Flatmates smoked weed, and never got court. Countless of sleepless nights as friends of my flatmates were drunk and were banging on our room doors and playing with the lock. Kitchen would be in a mess. Food is never safe there. Moved out from Telford as the Uni did not allow me to stay elsewhere on Campus. Had to pay rent for off campus and campus accommodation.

However, all this experience was a good lesson and ups and down of life.

Things i love about the Uni is my classes, sports village ( took on the beginner swimming lessons), restaurant, cafe study and the amazing 24/7 library. The people I met in Uni. The ability to face all situations. Had I not face such situations I would not have much memories to recall although they did come with an expensive cost.
- RM

Before arriving at the uni I received a few emails explaining to me what practical steps I needed to take on the day as well as what to expect in my first few days. There were suggestions about how to meet people e.g. via societies and info about what induction events would be running that I could attend in the first week - I liked that there were a mix of day and evening events so I didn't feel like meeting people would revolve around drinking/clubbing. It wasn't clear where to park on the day I arrived to move into halls, there were people pointing guiding us where to go but they sent me quite far away from my room even though there were spaces closer by which wasn't helpful as I have lots of heavy things to move in. I would have liked a guide of what to do over summer like a reading list or an opportunity to talk online with other new students on my course as that would have reassured me and helped me meet friends before I even arrived. I loved the opportunity to SKYPE call with 2 of the lecturers on my course between accepting my place at Herts and joining in September, it reassured me about what to expect academically during my first year of studies. It was a nice surprise when I first collected the keys to my flat and found some freebies of Herts merch on the desk in my room, it was nice and welcoming. A Herts angel helped me move my stuff into my room which I was a bit wary of to begin with as I didn't know if it was an official person with the university (because I hadn't heard of people doing this task in pre-move in info) but it was very helpful and they were so friendly! I was able to speak to current Herts students on The Student Room who were informative and were even able to direct me to the correct uni contact to find out what floor my room was on (as I was concerned about being on the bottom floor due to bad stories about this from friends already at uni). I liked speaking to current students on my course when I attended the open day as it gave me a really picture of what it was like to study at Herts.
RH

Plenty of informations was given out before arriving to university, mainly via email. Maybe for a fresher like me they were a lot to digest. The numerous activities offered and the enrolling procedures may disorient but once arrived it became easier. The university site is well organized and helps a lot to get informations about life on campus but the courses written were not attainable for some were not in the right semester or didn't exist anymore. The real downside was the lack of information about the timetable until a few days before lessons started. It was difficult to know wheter there would have been overlaps!
GK

From Bangladesh to University of Hertfordshire, it's truly been a awesome journey for me,
Initially, I learned everything about UH from university website and the response of the student ambassador and UH international committee by email was simply outstanding. UH is ranked Top 150 young universities in the world and there's no doubt about this amazing stat which i found really realistic after I reached in UH.
The lab facilities, curriculum and the co-operation between teachers and student is also one of the crucial thing which help me to Choose UH over any other university.
I was surprised by the amenities, organization and the whole co-operation of stuffs and students from Day 1.

But one thing which really saddened me is finding my way in the campus, I was told to download Herts Mobile App for every university news and stuff also the wayfinding but the wayfinding option in the App doesn't move with me like all other effective, so, it's not 100% helpful in wayfinding as i thought it would be.

i would recommend a updated version of it.

But, overall its been a awesome experience

From what I remember, prior to arriving at UH (in 2016) I did receive enough information about my course. I remember receiving an invitation to a 'taster day', in which i met my programme leader, as well as some of my lecturers. In this event, they explained in detail what modules would be covered during the 4 academic years, and they also provided information about studying abroad and future field trips. In terms of accommodation, I think the University gave me just enough information helping me to collect my room keys. However, I remember carrying out more independent research on the UH website to get information about paying rent, mail, accommodation rules, fees and more.

J.M.

As a mature student returning to uni, I was nervous and apprehensive. The biggest concern was if I was going to be able to take on such a challenging, even the first time I stepped foot into uni on a walkaround I was constantly doubting if I could do it. I am so glad I started and the uni couldn't have been more supportive and helpful. The lecturers seemed brilliant and passionate which made me want to be here. The information was accurate, well thought out and I managed to find my way round and embark on my biggest adventure yet, all whilst feeling supported by uni staff and lecturers. A.T

When choosing a university I looked at the websites and the wikipedia pages of the ones I liked, and I think I checked the youtube channel of UH, and there were some helpful videos about the accomodation and the campus overall, but as an international student I was not sure which things to take with me, and which ones the accomodation team would provide (e.g., bedding, kettle, kitchen ware), so I think a video with things like that would be useful about a month before the semester starts. Apart from that I just hoped that I would figure out how to get where upon my arrival, and I did, thanks to very helpful people on the reception and in the oval, as well as some student ambassadors who showed me around campus.

However, the emails I had received from the University calmed me as it provided me with everything a student would need; even if there were still unanswered questions, all I had to do was send an email and would be presented with an answer shortly after. It was very simple for me to find my classes as someone was always happy to help. Overall, for one as dependant as I am, I found my transfer into the University very uncomplicated and I've been happy ever since.
#GoHerts
G.P.C

There many basic things that we don't before coming to UNI like timetable, induction and module. On the other hand, finding a class in Uni initially big task. As well as, there are many facilities provided by UNI like laboratories, careers, student union, night event and career developments. It's our life and our dream to achieve with given facilities by UNI and the country.

The information about the pre-departure session is really helpful. Like how can I find accomodation before coming to University, what documents needs to carry while traveling, especially for international students this information is valuable.

But, I felt this information is not reached the students at the right time. Few students received after reaching here and few are not received at all. I received the information like Hoodie, Airport pickup dates, To whom I need to contact if I got emergency etc., after reaching here only.

There are positivies, also few backdrops. Hope the University team will take care of the backdrops and improve its services for the upcoming students. CHEERS!!

N.H

When I arrived at the airport, I was somewhat confused as to where exactly to go for the pickup point. I walked around where the pickup point was supposed to be for quite sometime before I ventured away from where the pickup point was listed and ended up finding the student helpers by luck. Once I was on campus, although I was helped by the student helpers, I wish they were more informed because sometimes I would ask questions and they would in turn have to ask someone who would ask someone and so on until I was told they dont know.

R.O.

All things was very good except the accomodation. I really suggest the University to provide in or off campus accomodation especially for student who bring their family (wife or children), because I must rent a flat from the estate agent and the price is very expensive. Before come to the UK my education agent told me that property for student would be GBP 600 to 800 per month, and suddenly I have to spent GBP 1,150 per month just for 1 bed room flat. It is a really sad story :(

TRT
