Throughout reading this book, I have come to realize the dangers of a fixed mindset and that I was completely blind to them before reading Mindset. Nearly every day, I see someone stating that they are "naturally" smart or another person dissing on themselves for being "stupid". Mindset has allowed me to realize that these statements are a result of the fixed mindset and it is dangerous to not only say, but think of things like intelligence and talent as being "fixed". This makes individuals lose motivation to succeed and causes them to plateau early. This is truly detrimental because motivation is half of the equation (Performance = Motivation x Ability).

Why I give this book a 9/10

I chose to give this book a 9/10 instead of a 10/10 due to the repetitive nature. However, it is an excellent book that I believe every individual should read regardless of their future goals. It is insightful and provides various new perspectives on how people think and behave. It also provides a great variety of ways to improve your own mindset through questions you can ask yourself daily. Having said this, I do believe that the nature of the book is inherently repetitive as it is justifiably 200 pages of comparing two things. I say justifiably because the repetitive nature is almost necessary in order to drill the principles and ideas into the heads of the readers. Due to these reasons, I have to take a point away from a perfect score of 10 out of 10 and give Mindset by Carol S. Dweck a 9 out of 10.

The conflict this book addresses...

The conflict that this book addresses is the fact that things such as intelligence and talent are not fixed. Meaning that intelligence and talent can be acquired with a proper outlook and a willingness to be constantly learning. The greatest enemy for a person is most likely not the circumstances that they are in, but the fixed mindset that they have conditioned themselves to believe in. In Mindset, Dweck demonstrates that a growth mindset is essential in order to achieve success, deeming it the "psychology of success". The principles of the growth mindset and the drawbacks of the fixed mindsets are consistently repeated in Dweck's book in a way that a reader could never forget.
