     INT. BASEMENT APARTMENT - DAY

     MICHAEL, millennial Goth, surveys himself in a cheap full-
     length mirror while playing air guitar. One move, then
     another, sometimes facing the mirror, sometimes with most of
     his back to the mirror. The door to his basement apartment is
     visible in the mirror's reflection.

     He pauses, reaches for a tube of hair gel, squeezes some onto
     his hands, rubs his hands then slicks his hair in various
     directions. He wipes the residue on his black jeans then
     resumes his air guitar rehearsal.

     The door RATTLES loudly enough for Michael to stop.

                          MOTHER
               Michael, I got you what you wanted!

     Michael flings open the door and lifts his MOTHER, late 40s,
     poorly dressed, in a hug.

                          MICHAEL
               Mom - tickets to X-Factor auditions
               - unbelievable!

     Michael puts his mother down. She hands him a sealed
     envelope, pats him on the shoulder and leaves.

                          MOTHER
               Do well.

     Michael closes the door and rehearses more frantically. He
     wipes his sweaty face with his black tee shirt, collapses on
     the bed and opens the envelope.

     INSERT - ENVELOPE AND CONTENTS

     TWO TICKETS INSIDE OPEN ENVELOPE: ONE ADMISSION TO X-FACTOR
     AUDITION, AND A ONE-WAY TICKET TO THE AUDITION LOCATION.
