This model allows us space to consider the whole child more then the SVR. We wondered if the AVR is cultural neutral and a universal application. It is a more complex picture of what reading entails- centre students linguistic and cultural resources as an asset.

The AVR is useful for supporting TCs observational practices -- they can develop the vocabulary that is present in the model

The AVR also opens the complexities of the reading process and may give TCs a way to identify what might be happening with children who are not yet reading fluently..

This challenges the notion that reading and literacy blocks should ONLY be focused on Strand B; this is something that Chantel has observed and it opens possibilities for supporting our TCs in this broader view of Reading (and literacies learning)

I think this part of the model is an excellent entry point for ALL age levels and when teaching reading across disciplines (reading science, reading math, reading French / additional languages, etc.). It definitely resonates with the multiple literacies literature as well.
