Selected Reading: “For My People”: By Margaret Walker

Allusion: “Let a second generation full of courage issue forth; let a people loving freedom come to growth.”

Artifact Title: “A People’s History of the United States”

Quotation: “In the office of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in Atlanta, a Spelman College student named Ruby Doris Smith, who had been jailed during the sit-ins, expressed their anger at the way women were relegated to the routine office work, and she was joined in her protest by two white women in SNCC, Sandra Hayden and Mary King.”

This artifact resembles the structure of anger and showing how aggressive this individual was toward being relegated to the routine office work by working with two white women in this organization called Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Apparently, this particular artifact represents the way of controlling and expressing your militance and anger by creating a stance for what you want.

Relation back to the allusion text, it forms the way of a new unity joining together for freedom and growth dealing with militance and anger. This shows how racism was improved by standing up for your rights and letting another generation come forward with development.

On the other hand, this artifact have similarities to the reading by having the same issues prior to what Margaret Walker was speaking about. For instance, Walker wanted change for the people to assist them with gaining power for their rights. In this historical artifact quote, the person expresses their wrath on how they felt while joining an organization ruled by two other white people. Therefore, the reading enhanced a stance from the artifact that was chosen dealing with controlling and voicing militance with anger.
