Present-day Maltese culture is essentially Latin European with the recent British legacy also in evidence.

Even the smallest village has its own baroque wonder the parish Church.

And to locals,each village has its unique characters.

Some are known for their festas and traditions, others are national gems as they house archaeological or architectural treasures.

It covers an area of 2 km² and has a population of 2,857. Its coat of arms is silver and red with a red star on the silver part, and the motto of the village is Excelsior meaning higher. The motto tells that the town is on the highest hill of Malta.

Għargħur became a Parish in 1598. The village feast is celebrated on the 24th or on the last Sunday of August and the Patron Saint is St. Bartholomew. One of the legends found in Għargħur is that of St. Patrick's cave. In the olden times, it was believed that demons had infested this cave and people were afraid to pass by it. Once a painting of the crucified Christ and St. Patrick came ashore. The people took the painting to this cave and the demons left.

Some places of interest in Għargħur are the Oratory, St. John's Chapel and Top of the World amongst others.
