Permanent Second Class Citizenship

African American struggle is something that consistently is an issue. This second class citizenship stemmed from the fact that African Americans after slavery were seen as intruders and not wanted by their white counterparts who had lived with hatred for black people as well as fear of them. Interestingly enough this was a beast that they themselves created, and in bringing Africans here, stripping them of their culture and, forcing them to adapt to a new one; white people trapped blacks in the United States, not allowing them to have a home to go back to. Treating these African Americans with hostility led to the creation of ghettos and low income neighborhoods where people were consistently pushed into lives of crime to be able to sustain themselves, as there were so many white employers refusing them jobs as their skin was black.

Forcing African Americans into jobs which paid very little, or otherwise firing them for little to no reason, or even refusing them jobs in the first place was not uncommon, leading to a small portion of people instead looking to robbery as well as other criminal activities in order to keep themselves as well as their families afloat. Now this assumption of African American people being poor and robbers trickles down into police attitudes. Police attitudes have set and continuously grown into the fact that African Americans have been stopped for absolutely nothing. Police officers at this point have begun assuming that African Americans are criminals and promoting the private prison industry by sending them to jail or prisons for minor crimes.

The private prison industry is almost chocked full with African Americans due to both holding people who are awaiting trial as well as people who take plea deals in order to avoid trials. The private prison industry has been exaggerated and unfortunately been perpetuated again and again throughout the years. The private prison industry has grown with the African American population being one of the major proponents of that system. Being poor there have even been examples of African Americans who have purposely gotten imprisoned in order to escape severe weather. Poverty, placed upon African Americans due to racism and being forced into second class citizenship led to the burgeoning private prison industry.
