This is what I have discovered interviewing both, my father and uncle:
My uncle, who has a deep passion for new evolving advanced technology, owns an electric-powered vehicle and is promoting for the family to convert over to them. Based on my interview with him he has a surface level of understanding about the type of car he owns. As the interview continues, I ask him, "Why do you prefer EVs over internal combustion engines?". His first answer was, "To save money, so I do not have to spend a bunch of money on gas.", then he continued his answer with, "But to also reduce pollution." After he concluded his answer of why he switched over to electric powered vehicles, and it is because he needs to commute from Walnut Creek, California to Cupertino, California, five days a week. When I asked if he knew how electric cars operated and what components are in them, he did not know. Overall, after the interview was over, I had a better understanding of why some people would promote electric vehicles, that is because they like comfort.
On the other hand, my father does not like electric vehicles because they hinder the convenience factor. When I interview my father I just replaced EVs with internal combustion engines. My father said the reasons why he would never buy an EV are because they are quite expensive right now, they are no fun to drive, and there are not that many charging stations compared to gas stations. In addition to that, he stated, if he were ever to be in a hurry and the car is almost out of battery, he would have to go to a charging station and sit there until the car has been fully charged or charged enough for him to get to his destination. He also said that if you want to get a car charger put in your garage, it would also cost "another arm or leg". In the end, all of the reasonings my father gave me about why we would rather own an internal combustion engine, are because it is cheaper, more convenient, and more fun to drive around. He would rather have convenience over comfort. While my uncle would rather have comfort over convenience.

In addition to the five articles, I formulated questions related to my critical question and interviewed two people. Those people being my father and uncle,

While I was reading the five articles, I came across new information, but also some information that has been mentioned multiple times from the mainstream media. The information which I newly discovered were, the production of electric vehicles (EVs) initially have larger carbon footprint than internal combustion vehicles, EVs have been in production since 1832, and newer internal combustion engines produce close to zero emissions because of the advancement in filtration components in the exhaust pipes nowadays. Although, all of these articles were informative and credible, they continuously mentioned that EVs are better for the environment in the long-run. The problem I was hoping to find that the articles were going to talk about, is production of EVs and the carbon footprint that they leave behind and the ban of internal combustion engines in 2035. I wanted to find these in one of the articles because if you think about it, if the initial carbon footprint of the production of EVs is a large amount and the United States wants to ban the production of internal combustion engines by the year 2035. All of the car manufacturers would have to produce as many EVs as fast as possible, so they can replace their current lineup of vehicles. Although, this may be a high possibility, people are not thinking about the initial carbon footprint of electric cars and how it could balance out if we just kept internal combustion engines.

Another topic within this critical question, is that car manufacturers are greatly reducing the production of emission gases nearly to zero with all of the advancements in the components of the exhaust pipe; the catalytic converter, which filters out all of the harmful byproducts in the exhaust gases and burns them up. Another fact which I found out, is that the majority of the pollution that is produced by internal combustion engines that are newly made, are from the wearing of its tires not the gases coming out of the exhaust.

My interviews made me realize that many people who own EVs do not know the science behind their vehicles, and people who are not drawn to EVs is because they want the convenience, for example not waiting hours for the car to charge when they can spend a few minutes at the gas station to obtain a full tank of gas.
