There has been a lot of research on Addition as a Disease. This department of SAMSA specifically works on what helps in the rehabilitation of an individual or family affected by it.

New research is presenting on what does it take to recover from addition. Paolo del Vecchio, MSW recently presented at the conference for Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP) about the research on recovery done by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). He spoke on things like studies showing an average of an 8 years of a process of healing, before the person can even attain 1 year of not using the drug that abused them or they abused. He spoke on what they go through during that process and after, and what the department hopes to accomplish. (Del Vecchio, 2023)

This department focuses on the recovery from the damages addition has caused. That includes things like alternate medications, the hurdles in seeking treatment, career affects after admitting they are in recovery, normalizing recovery and minimizing stigmas, promoting training and public education, structuring and expanding peer support services.(SAMHA, 2023)
