         <title>1600&#39;s - William Gilbert and Robert William Boyle </title>

Firstly, by William Gilbert with his book, <em>De Magnete. </em>Later on, Robert William Boyle published his book, <em>Experiments and Notes about the Mechanical Origin or Production of Electricity, </em>in 1675.<em>  </em></div>]]></description>

         <title>1752 - Benjamin Franklin </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Benjamin Franklin is the most predominant name in the invention of electricity, due to his well known <strong>Kite Experiment</strong>.  Franklin attached a metal wire to the top of a kite and a metal key to the base, he then hoisted the kite into the air during a thunderstorm. Franklin found,  when there was a struck of lighting, a current travelled down the kite and this charged the metal key at the base. Franklin touched the key with his knuckles and sparks jumped to his hand. Franklin was also able to collect some of this electricity in a Leyden Jar (an antique device for storing electricity). </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Another well known American Inventor is Thomas Edison, who discovered <strong>Direct Current</strong> (DC). DC is the one directional flow of electric charge and was the standard in the US at the time. However, it is difficult for DC to convert to higher or lower voltages.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Late 1880s - Nikola Tesla </title>

Telsa opposed the idea of Direct Current and instead insisted that<strong> Alternating Current</strong> (AC) was a better solution. AC is an electric current that can periodically change  it's direction and can be converted into different voltages easily using a transformer.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Late 1880s to the Early 1890s - War of the Currents  </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The <strong>War of Currents</strong> was between Direct Current (Thomas Edison) and Alternating Current (Nikola Tesla). Edison, not wanting the royalties he was earning from DC to become effected, started to spread incorrect information about AC, claiming it was dangerous. However, with the help of <strong>George Westinghouse</strong>, AC was becoming the more predominantly used form of electricity. Westinghouse obtained patent rights to AC and adopted it for his electric company, <strong>Westinghouse Electric Company.</strong> Westinghouse Electric Company supplied electricity to both the Chicago Worlds Fair and Niagara Falls Power Company. Due to this it appeared that AC had obliterated DC and AC became the standard used in General Electric.</div>]]></description>
