Research Question: Will exercising regularly help fall asleep easier?

Variables Tested: Dependent variable is sleep and the independent variable is working out. Hypothesis: Exercising regularly will make it easier to fall asleep at night.
Experimental Procedure

Control: A week’s worth of sleep with no exercising during the week.

Treatment: I will start out with workouts that are simple, like going for a hike or jog and gradually increasing the challenge in workouts so I don’t overwhelm my body.

Materials: No materials needed. The workouts will not need any equipment.

Actions: I will not be exercising for one week and track how easy it was for me to fall asleep and how long it took me. Then, I will be regularly exercising (four times a week) for the following week and tracking how easy and quickly it took me to fall asleep. I will then compare my data from the two weeks.

Data Collected: I will use an app called Sleep Cycle that has notes where I can add in that I worked out, and it also uses a microphone to tell when I fall asleep and the quality.

Safety Considerations: Make sure that the workouts that I’m doing are safe and I am not overexerting my body.

Integumentary System

The main organ is the skin, which is made up of the epidermis (epithelial tissue), dermis (connective tissue), and hypodermis (subcutaneous). The skin cells have keratinocytes, melanocytes, and fibroblasts.

Skeletal System

The main organ in the skeletal system is the bone, which can be spongey or compact. The cells in a bone are osteocyte, osteoblast, osteoclast, and red blood cells run through the osteons.

Since my goal is to become a teacher, and I spent a lot of time in schools since I volunteer a lot.
Where: I plan to get trained at Coburg Community Charter School. My mom works there, and I worked there this past school year. Since I volunteer a lot at the school I am able to attend the training that the staff goes through. The school is located right next to a fire station, so they go next door when it’s time for the training.

Why: I chose this training since it makes the most sense for me. I work a lot with children, so it makes sense to receive the first aid training that the rest of the staff at CCCS does. It’s also the training that is most accessible to me. Next month I will be attending a field trip as a volunteer with the fourth grade class, so I’m required to get first aid training.

Lab Safety

Wear gloves, googles, and a mask

Be aware of others around you

Clean up any materials

Follow all directions

Keeping a clean work space

Keep hair tied up

Be careful around chemicals and flames

Don’t eat or drink in the lab

Be careful with lab equipment

Use all equipment in the lab appropriately

Ask questions when you are not sure how to use the equipment

Outdoor Safety

Protective shoes and clothing

Think of family and animals

Think before smelling or tasting

Do not play with animals

Carry epipen at all times

Be cautious around all animals

Read and follow all signs

Carry a safety kit at all times

Wear protective clothing and footwear, this goes for lab safety as well

Pathogens

Wear mask if around others

Wash hands frequently

Carry hand sanitizer with me

Keep a distance from others if necessary

Wear gloves as needed

Stay away from others if coughing or sneezing
