Art is all over classrooms. A lot of times there is student art hanging up which I love to see how each of them are unique. Art in the classroom doesn’t just have to be the students art. A lot of times teachers have art in their classroom that they enjoy. Most of the time is it bought and it can be an inspirational quote with a picture or I’ve even seen things the teachers like such Harry Potter pictures. Art makes the classroom feel more bright and can inspire creativity.

I have seen art in the classroom used in many ways. One way in particular is when I subbed in a kindergarten classroom, they would have reading time where they read a story and then they would have guided art time where the teacher would demonstrate or they would have a video going over how to draw something. When I was subbing they were learning about kings and queens and they had done a guided drawing of a king and a queen and then they could color it. They had also previously done guided drawings of castles and a guided activity of making a crown.

I have seen visual art used in a variety of ways in the classroom. Some examples include doing art project “for fun”, doing art projects related to field trips (my 2nd grade students did an art project of the nutcracker when they went to the nutcracker), doing art related to other subject areas(my 5th graders did a camoflauge art project when they were learning about camoflauge in science), and even observing art and interpreting it during reading (following the BPS wit and wisdom curriculum). Finally, I have even seen drawing related to writing and even just drawing with sidewalk chalk outside

During my observations I’m the elementary schools, I saw some teachers incorporate art into their classrooms for the holidays. They asked the students to duplicate an example to create an art project to display in the hallways.

I also saw one teacher who had her students each draw one of the constellations when they were working on a unit regarding the solar system.

I have seen art used in many different ways. Most teachers use art to show the different content that the students are learning in their classroom. I have also seen teachers use it when they are learning new lessons. After talking about different people in the War of 1812, the students drew a portrait of a person they just learned about.

I have observed 3 art lessons. Many teachers include drawing or coloring into their lessons. One activity I thought was fun was when I was observing a kindergarten class, and she wanted the students to create a drawing of how they see themselves and then how they see their teacher. It was quite fun to see all of the different ways students see things.

I work at an elementary school and I see art used in many different ways in the classroom.

Teachers read books to their kids and they draw pictures about what they read or draw their favorite part. Or they read a book about something and draw a picture that is relatable to the book and their own experience. For example, if the book was about a road trip, students would draw a picture about a trip that they went on with their family.

Teachers use Art throughout holidays and incorporate with the subject being taught. So for example, if it’s math time they could do a color by number.

Another example my oldest daughter who is in fifth grade was learning how to use Canva in her classroom and they made posters about being kind.
