Artifact: My mentor introduced my to ReadWorks. This online resource provides leveled reading articles that are both fiction and nonfiction. These articles come with questions sets and can be assigned to your students through the google classroom. Artifact: In a science lesson about local habitats, I used a flipchart on the interactive Promethean Board to give students autonomy in their learning. There was a box of images. Every student came up and dragged an image of a plant or animal out of the box. It was their job to place that organism where they believed one would find it in our local habitat. Artifact: I taught the class a lesson about digital citizenship for my interactive lesson plan. After a class discussion about why internet safety is important, the class answered some important questions on an interactive flipchart. As a group, students chose which answer was the best option for internet safety and digital citizenship. Then, a student representative came to the board and dragged a star icon to the chosen answer.

Artifact: We use many different online programs to help our students improve in math. Some examples are XtraMath, Khan Academy, and Freckle Math. After seeking class feedback about the different programs we decided to stop using Khan Academy in our classroom. The students all agreed that this program was confusing and generally not user friendly. They did however cite that they enjoy the other programs we are using and so those will stay in rotation. We want to use programs that students are engaged in and find effective.

I plan reading with another second grade teacher and attend weekly planning meetings with our whole team. We review every week what programs and activities are working well and which aren't. Artifact: Outside of designing whole group lessons where students interact with the lesson, I use Chromebooks as a small group rotation during both reading and math block. In reading, sometimes they are assigned a ReadWorks article based on their skills in reading, with options when they are complete. Other times, they have free choice of two or three options. It may be Freckle ELA, PebbleGo, Britannica, Tumblebooks, and more. This gives students autonomy in their learning as well as experience with various platforms. Artifact: Students are given many opportunities in the classroom to work with technology. I facilitate this with learning activities such as research completed on internet databases, ELA and math block rotation times, and lesson plans with the interactive Promethean Board where students take charge of using the technology. They interact and learn from technology every day in my classroom. Artifact: I use student data from both online math programs and ELA programs to monitor student learning and progress as well as individualize instruction. I am able to see students' individual data from each program we use whether it is XtraMath, Freckle Math/ELA, ReadWorks, and more. I can access this from Google Classroom and from the formats themselves. This data helps me inform my small group instruction and tailor lessons to students' individual needs.
