According to Sojourner Truth’s “Ain’t I a Woman?”, “I have as much muscle as any man, and can do as much work as any man. I have plowed and reaped and husked and chopped and mowed, and can any man do more than that? I have heard much about the sexes being equal; I can carry as much as any man, and can eat as much too, if I can get it. I am as strong as any man that is now” (Truth 3). In the reading, the passage also said, “That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place” (Truth 2). The path for a woman is not at all easier than the path for a man. A woman's life will have many obstacles and hardships in the road. Not all women are fortunate enough to have a great man who goes out of her way to help them, so women gradually become strong and independent. According to the article, “Asian Pacific American Women and Feminism”, Mitsuye Yamada talks about the equality of women and it is important for us to know what it means to be a woman in our society. As Yamada says, we need to continue to reach our goal, in order to achieve equality in our society as a woman. Asian women are not all housewives; they are strong and independent. Like the image, this Asian lady is a boxing coach. The boxing coach has a beautiful skin color, a healthy tan and has strong muscles.

(The Invention of Heterosexuality)

Human body was just seen as a means towards procreation and production. In the past, penis and virgina were instruments of reproduction, not pleasure. Purity was a defining feature of sex and desire. Right now, purity is not used to define people because purity is not the word it used to be. Heterosexual is an erotic feeling for a different sex. Erotic drive but still with purpose for procreation. Right now this is not just about reproduction but related with pleasure. Heterosexuality is actually when a person who is emotionally, romantically, sexually, attracted to members of a different sex. In the society, heterosexual is constructed as a norm. As a result, we can always see many heterosexual men are sexually or romantically attracted to women, and heterosexual women are sexually or romantically attracted to men. I was picking up my brother from school and I saw a couple. Two people are attracted to each other at this moment.

According to the passage, “The Social Construction of Gender”, we ascribe our gender, and society constructs our gender too. There is nothing essential about femaleness/maleness, femininity/masculinity, womanhood/manhood. Social order limits how people can be, as they must fit into these gender statuses. Society makes these orders seem natural and invisible but these orders are obvious in people’s hearts. People follow the social order and the society tells them how to act, and how to react to the society’s problems. Men are dominant but other groups of people are subordinate in society. In this image, we can see the public restroom. Men go to the men's room, women go to the women’s room. In the restroom, men and women have different equipment in the restroom because they have different ways to use it.

In the lecture, we talked about how we were assigned to Femininity and Masculinity. We have gender identity (define who we are, like we are woman, man, or non-binary). Gender identity is each person’s internal and individual experience of gender. It is the belief that a person belongs to either the male or female gender, neither, both, or somewhere in between. We have our own gender expression to show our identity. Like how we present ourselves by watching our behaviors or looking at our appearances. When people see these characteristics, they will know clearly. A person’s gender identification may correlate or disagree with their assigned sex. In the image, it shows the man’s armpit’s hair which reveals his gender identity and also we can see his short hair.

Women usually do manicures because nails represent one’s appearance. However, manicures for men can also decrease stress and alleviate anxiety. Men coloring their nails really isn’t anything new in society now. Manicure has become an art now so many guys are doing nails to show themselves. Some male artists and also some rappers are doing nails in 20s century. This is also related to femininity and masculinity.
