A room on Wall Street 40 was in 1817 the start of all this. Back then the New York Stock Exchange opened their first permanent headquarters. Now Wall Street is the centre of the financial district in New York and the term Wall Street is used to point out the financial heart of the United States. The name Wall Street was originally called “de Waal Straat” or “Wal Straat”. There are two explanations for this. The first one is that it is named after the wall the Dutch people had built to keep Indians, English and French out of their domicile. The second theory is that the street is named after “de Walloons, a mainly French speaking region in Belgium. Among the first settlers on 29 March were 30 Walloon Families. In 1929 the stock exchange collapsed and this is now known as the Wall Street Crash. This happened because the stock exchange quickly dwindled. Many people believe this crash was the cause of the Great Depression in America. Often there is said that the Wall Street Crash is responsible for stockbrokers committing suicide. This is an organisation that organises stock car races in the United States on regional and national level. There are three national championships: Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series and Camping world truck. Sprint Cup is the most known race and has been held since 1949. In the 20s Daytona beach got known for drivers attempting to break the world speed record. At the same time people were doing stock car racing. The cars that were being used for this races were the same cars used during the ban on liquor. In 1936 the first stock car race was held on the Daytona Beach Road Course. The organisation of these races was often bad for organisations not paying the drivers. So Bill France (a mechanic) decided to start organising races himself. In 1947 NASCAR was founded by him together with other mechanics, drivers and team-owners. The tracks are often an oval like shape of various distances and cars can reach speeds around 200 miles per hour. One of requirements for the cars is that they also have to be sold to at dealers. restThe cars are built to offer as much as safety as possible. American comics differ from the European comics as they appear as long ongoing stories and are periodically published. A storyline can be finished in one comic but usually it consists of three or four comics. DC Comics and Marvel Comics are the most famous publishers of comic books. They invented well known super heroes like, Captain America, Spiderman, Superman and Batman. Both companies started late in the thirties. Superheroes were very popular then and this age is called the ‘Golden Age of Comic Books’. After the second world war people started to lose interest in superhero comics and publishers shifted to other themes like horror, humour, western and drama. During the sixties Marvel and DC Comics did everything in their power to make the superhero genre great again. In order to do that they invented a large number of new heroes and started focussing more on the personalities of the superheroes. A cool element is that superheroes of the same publisher are within the same universe that the publisher created. This makes it possible for superheroes to meet each other and influence each others storyline. George Washington hasn’t lived in the White House because it wasn’t finished yet when he was president. Although isn’t obliged for presidents to live at the White House it has always been a tradition.The White House is the official residence and workplace for the president of the United States and it is situated in the district Capitol Hill in Washington. It is built after a design of James Hoban an Irish architect. He used Leinster House (the Irish Parliament building) as inspiration for the White house. They started building in 1792 and finished it in 1800 and it costed 232.371,80$ to built it. The building originally was named as “President’s Palace” or “Presidential Mansion”. First known record of the name “White house” dates back to 1811. But legends say that the building got his name White House after the Burning of Washington in 1814. This happened during the war with England. When The English troops occupied Washington they burned down the Presidents Palace.
