The song we chose was Island in the sun by Weezer. The song has a upbeat tempo which is how the boys felt when they first arrived on the island. They were hopeful and energetic. The lyric "on an island in the sun," directly describes where the boys are currently located. Piggy makes the statement to Ralph, "This is an island."(Golding 4) The Song has a Lyric saying,"Just a place to call your own."(Golding 5) is relevant because there are "No grownups," on the island. Then song then says, "We'll be playing and having fun,and it makes me feel so fine." The kids were laughing and felt safe. "A storm of laughter arose and even the tiniest child joined in."(Golding 16)

The song we chose was Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song has a more negative connotation. In this chapter the beastie is first mentioned. The lyric,"Don't go out tonight.Well, it's bound to take your life." This connects with the beastie because One of the kids claim they saw it. "He says the beastie came in the dark."(Golding 27) The lyric "I see bad times today," is relevant because in this chapter the first boy dies on the island.Piggy says "That little 'un that had a mark on his face--where is--he now? I tell you I don't see him."(Golding 36) They thought maybe he was at the base of the mountain , but it is soon know that he is dead never to be seen again. In this chapter, Jack makes his first promise to the kids that he will get meat for everyone. "We're going to hunt pigs to get meat for everybody."(Golding 30) The lyric "I see the bad moon rising," describes Jack obsession with hunting.

The song "Hungry like the wolf" by Duran Duran portrays chapter 3 because in this chapter Jack and his hunters go out to hunt the pig lurking on the island. The lyrics of the song state,"Hungry like the wolf." "A sharpened stick about five feet long trailed from his right hand."(Golding 37) This shows Jack was ready to kill the pig. The lyric " I'm in touch with the ground, i'm on the hunt, i'm after you." and the quote "Jack was bent double. He was down like a sprinter, his nose only a few inches from the humid earth,"(Golding 36) both go hand in hand. They both show Jacks position and once again showing how prepared he was to kill the pig. The lyric "I break from the crowd, i'm on the hunt after you." this correlates because by breaking from the crowd Jack is leaving Ralph to build the shelters by himself to go hunt. Ralph ask "You wouldn't care to help with the shelters, I suppose?" Jack replies with "We want meat." (Golding 39)

The song "Rift" by Phish is the perfect song to describe chapter 4. The lyric "The passion that sparked me one terrible," can describe the night Jack killed the pig. Killing the pig was his one main passion and this unfortunately started his path of darkness. The line " "_Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood."(Golding 52) shows how eager and deranged Jack and his hunters were. Jack was so distracted by hunting he let the fire go out. "Ralph spoke again, hoarsely. He had not moved. "You let the fire go out."(Golding 52) The lyric" and glared back at me,one last look of dismay." This can describe how Ralph feels about Jack letting the fire go out. On top of that he let his anger out on Piggy. Piggy said, "You didn't ought to have let that fire out. You said you'd keep the smoke going--" This from Piggy, and the wails of agreement from some of the hunters, drove Jack to violence. The bolting look came into his blue eyes. He took a step, and able at last to hit someone, stuck his fist into Piggy's stomach."(Golding 54) Jack did not only fail to do his job, but also is turning to violence when it comes to confronting Piggy.

The song "Last Day of Magic" by The Kills describes what is starting to happen on the island. The verse " we're two parties, two parties ending," this describes Jack and Ralph's relationship. After the boys leave with Jack, Piggy wants Ralph to blow the conch to summon them back, but Ralph feels that if he does and they don't come then all is lost. "If I blow the conch and they don't come back; then we've had it. We shan't keep the fire going. We'll be like animals. We'll never be rescued."(Golding 60) Then there's the line "There's only so much you can miss before we both collide." this can describe the instance when Jack says "Bollocks to the rules!"(Golding 58) This shows Ralph and Jack views being totally different. "He gave a wild whoop and leapt down to the pale sand. At once the platform was full of noise and excitement, scramblings, screams and laughter. The assembly shredded away and became a discursive and random scatter from the palms to the water and away along the beach, beyond night-sight."(Golding 60) This shows that the boys are starting to follow Jack. The shift of power is being know by the boys following Jack.

We chose "The Mob Song" from Beauty and the Beast. In this chapter SamnEric think they see the beast and report back to Ralph where they end up having an expedition to capture it."So it's time to take action boys, it's time to follow me." this lyric describes when Jack was ready to hunt the beastie. Jack says "This'll be a real hunt! Who'll come?"(Golding 79) In both song and book they both describe the beast as having teeth and claws. "He's got fangs, razor sharp ones. Massive paws, killer claws for the feast," is which how the beast is described in the song. SamnEric describe the beast saying, "There were eyes," "Teeth," "Claws."(Golding 77) In the song it states " Save your children" and in the book it reads, " What about the littluns? Someone's got to look after them."(Golding 81) showing that in the books and in the song they both care for the well being of the kids.

"Another brick in the wall" by Pink Floyd portrays this chapter in the book really well. The lyric "We don't need no education, we don't need no thought control," is a perfect example for when Robert pretended to be the boar and the kids acted like they we're trying to kill him went a little to far. "They got his arms and legs. Ralph, carried away by a sudden thick excitement, grabbed Eric's spear and jabbed at Robert with it. "Kill him! Kill him!" All at once, Robert was screaming and struggling with the strength of frenzy. Jack had him by the hair and was brandishing his knife. Behind him was Roger, fighting to get close. The chant rose ritually, as at the last moment of a dance or a hunt. "Kill the pig! Cut his throat! Kill the pig! Bash him in!" they got so caught up in the game they forgot it was even a game.(Golding 89) Jack and his hunters saw the kids as nothing more than something to be played with." All in all you're just another brick in the wall." this lyric can be used as something to describe how Jack sees the little kids. "You want a real pig," said Robert, still caressing his rump, "because you've got to kill him." "Use a littlun," said Jack, and everybody laughed."(Golding 91)

The song " Mr self Destruct" by Nine Inch Nails represents chapter 8 in multiple ways. The fisrt lyric depicts" I am the voice inside your head and I control you." This describes Simon's conversation with the pig head. The pig says to Simon "There isn't anyone to help you. Only me. And I'm the Beast."(Golding 99) The beast is already in Simon's head. The pig also says" This is ridiculous. You know perfectly well you'll only meet me down there--so don't try to escape!"(Golding 101) and the lyric " I am denial, guilt, and fear and, I control you. The pig represents the truth, guilt, despair and that is what he means when he say you'll only meet me down there, so don't try to escape. The "down there" he talks about is the truth, guilt, and despair. "I'm warning you. I'm going to get angry. D'you see? You're not wanted. Understand? We are going to have fun on this island. Understand? We are going to have fun on this island! So don't try it on, my poor misguided boy, or else."(Golding 101) The pig talks to Simon in controlling way and is trying to get in his head and take over what he is thinking.

"Cannibal" by Kesha incorporates all that has happened in chapter 9. The lyric " I am a cannibal," describes exactly how the boys are acting when they kill Simon. "At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore. There
were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws."(Golding 114) The boys did not recognize that it was Simon they were killing even though he was yelling "it's me." The lyric "I drink their blood." can describe the boys savagery when they are killing Simon. Jack chants "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood! Do him in!"(Golding 115) The kids also did not show any remorse for what they had done. They simply just walked away without another thought. "Presently the heap broke up and figures staggered away. Only the
beast lay still, a few yards from the sea. Even in the rain they could see how small a beast it
was; and already its blood was staining the sand."(Golding 119)

"Cruel War" by Peter, Paul, and Mary has many lyrics connecting it with Lord Of The Flies. The first lyric " The cruel war is rising." The war between Ralph and Jack is slowly brewing. The kids that were with Jack attacked Ralph during the night "Ralph hit out; then he and what seemed like a dozen others were rolling over and over, hitting, biting, scratching. He was torn and jolted, found fingers in his mouth and bit them. A fist withdrew and came back like a piston, so that the whole shelter exploded into light. Ralph twisted sideways on top of a writhing body and felt hot breath on his cheek. He began to pound the mouth below him, using his clenched fist as a hammer; he hit with more and more passionate hysteria as the face became slippery. A knee jerked up between his legs and he fell sideways, busying himself with his pain, and the fight rolled over him. Then the shelter collapsed with smothering finality; and the anonymous shapes fought their way out and through. Dark figures drew themselves out of the wreckage and flitted away, till the screams of the littluns and Piggy's gasps were once more audible."(Golding 127) Ralph and Piggy got closer as friends when Jack left the group. Piggy is basically the only friend Ralph truly has. Ralph cares about Piggy saying." "How's Piggy?" They hauled Piggy clear of the wreckage and leaned him against a tree. The night was cool and purged of immediate terror. Piggy's breathing was a little easier. "Did you get hurt, Piggy?" "Not much,"(Golding 128) and the lyric, "i'll pass as your comrade, as we march along." As Ralph blames himself for taking part in Simon's death and Piggy continues to try and comfort him. "We was scared!" said Piggy excitedly. "Anything might have happened. It wasn't--what you said."(Golding 121)

This lyric describes Roger the boy who killed Piggy."High overhead, Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever."(Golding 145) "This is the end my friend." This lyric describes Piggy death in terms of Ralph." This time the silence was complete. "Ralph's lips formed a word but no sound came."(Golding 147) Ralph is in so much shock he isn't even able to speak." Despite Piggy's death Jack is still focused on being leader. He says " "See? See? That's what you'll get! I meant that! There isn't a tribe for you any more! The conch is gone--" He ran forward, stooping. "I'm chief!"(Golding 148)

"Mad world" By Gary Jules portrays everything that is happening in this chapter. From the characters,to the rescue,to the forest being set on fire."All around me are familiar faces." this lyric be used to describe how Ralph feels about the other boys on the island. "The breaking of the conch and the deaths of Piggy and Simon lay over the island like a vapor. These painted savages would go further and further."(Golding 155) The boys who Ralph used to call friends have now turned to total savagery. "Worn out places". This can describe the island. Jack sets the forest on fire in attempt to Kill Ralph. "Smoke was seeping through the branches in white and yellow wisps, the patch of blue sky overhead turned to the color of a storm cloud, and then the smoke billowed round him. Someone laughed excitedly, and a voice shouted. "Smoke!""(Golding 156) The author no longer calls the children boys he calls them by the name of "savages."" A smallish savage was standing between him and the rest of the forest, a savage striped red and white, and carrying a spear."(Golding 153)
