The original bridge was the Charles Grimes bridge which connected Footscray road on the north bank with Montague Street on the south. A new road was built through the defunct rail yards to the rear of Spencer Street station and connected to Montague St. via the new Charles Grimes bridge; this being Wurundjeri Way. The old road through the docks was renamed to Harbour Esplanade. Wurundjeri is the name of the local aboriginal people of the Kulin Nation. This station predates Spencer street and sits at the intersection of Flinders and Swanston Streets. The local phrase 'Meet you under the Clocks' refereed to meeting at the top of the steps under the clocks. The clocks were used to indicate the departure time of the next train on each line and were manually set by station hands.
You can see this are is dominated by the station but diagonally opposite is St. Pauls Cathedral and directly opposite is Federation Square. A famous Pub can be found on the remaining corner.
Being a busy intersection the coulours are dominated by street traffic, trams and buses along with the ever changing traffic lights.
