- This is the chapter where things become continuous more concerning.
- Even after finding food and water the boys complain more, stating that they want meat.
- Scary because the idea of these kids killing something is introduced. Even though it's just animals and not humans. It can still turn into humans.
- They want meat not because it can be healthy for providing protein. They just want to taste something.
- This is how they're adapting to make up for a time where they could have any kind of food they wanted whenever they wanted it.
- They're putting fun and wants before needs to survive and maintain order.

- The biguns are becoming progressively more violent because they continue to hunt pigs and kill animals.
- The littluns are highly vulnerable because they just play all day and are unknowingly left at the mercy of the biguns.
- Ralph, Piggy, and Simon are still the only two three that are trying to get everyone safe and saved.
- All the boys are falling into their savage routine, meaning they're loosing touch with society.
- Jack's mask gives him more power because he now has something to hide behind. Their's a more symbolic authority figure now.
- The biguns have now become cult-like with their public nudity and hunting chants.

  •  a "sign" from the adults: it's a parachuting dead body drifting down to the ground from a battle being fought by airplanes above the island.
  •  the twins wake him up screaming that they saw the beast
  •  "Sucks to the littluns." they are now diregarding the children who need them. slowly the idea of this beast is consuming them and threatening their already close the nonexistent order
  • again Simon states his opinion that the beast isn't real but goes ignored this time. this vioce of reason is again being disregarded
  • the fire goes out again. it seems that hunting has again taken precedent over being saved off this island. they are too worried about imaginary evils.

    -The closest thing the children on the island have to a savior or a God is adults. Since they are the only thing that can get the children off the island.

    - When Simon discovers that the "beast" is nothing but a dead pilot he pukes. He and the readers now both see that the one thing that could save them has died. Basically symbolizes that their "God"/savior is dead.

    - The "savages" kill yet another schoolboy when they mistake Simon for the "beast". Symbolizing another HUGE step away from humanity for the boys.

    - Even Ralph and Piggy helped with this because of their fear that the "beast" would actually be real. Now the "savages" are infecting the only voices of reason on the island.     - Simon suggest that they all go up the mountain and he begins to hallucinate which will inevitably lead to his death
    - The bloody,horrific scene of the pig is where Jack and the choir boys really latch on to the sinful nature that is evident in all of human kind. They kill the pig not for nutrition but for fun and enjoyment. They laugh afterwards which is where the almost become unrecognizable
    -We get the pigs head put on a stick in which Golding derives his title from. When asked Golding mentions that  “The theme is an attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature."
    - The pig assures Simon that "Everything is bad business"and he responds that he already knows that. This is where we can make the connection of how Simon is our Moses
    - How does the diminishing of Simon relate to the end of a prophet and in a way the end of God and having a figure guide in a disastrous situation.
    -Does Simon's death represent that the boys are a lost cause and not even someone divine can help them?
