It was too big so I smashed it a couple of times to get a decent sized rock with lots of bumps and lumps so I could contour the shape of whatever animal I chose. I noticed a large bump at the top so I decided to make that head and followed a line down up into a tail. I saw two lumps at the bottom good for general feet shapes. I did fully fill in certain parts completely dark in an attempt to highlight the ridges and left the less defined area less filled. I decided on a general cat theme for this entire project just for a fun motif too which is seen carried here with the selection of a cat as the cave-painting replica. I decided on this particular work and headed outside at school to find a rock to smash to procure a chunk I could use as an animal side-profile cave painting attempt. I used the natural ridges of the rock to try and determine the shape of the animal, that I chose to be a cat based on a working theme. I believe the "rock" I found was actually concrete mixed with stones left right outside the door at my school. I went on a rock hunt, and this is a fun fact, I was actually looking to recreate the Apollo 11 Stones but when I saw how textured this "rock" was I knew it would be smarter to use the lumpiness to my advantage and opted for The Great Hall of Bulls. I used a nice sharpie graciously lent by a teacher to define the traits in a monotone hue to similarly highlight the more solid animal shapes on the wall. Though in hindsight I do wish I would have used maybe on other color to be the body color and just used black as the outline but sharpie is hard to cover or remove so it was there to stay. I still really like it though, especially in person. The image does not do the 3-D aspect of the 2-D flat image justice, kind of like the cave paintings though the real ones are much more breathtaking I assume. The background for my final image was some white paper with lines defined and drawn into it to give a bright but textured feel with a jumbled shading behind the rock to imitate lighting. I wanted the "background" to be very bright but not distracting to the rock so I opted to do an indoor with less harsh lines as a background rather than a natural outdoors shoot. I think it came out really cute and I am very happy with my ability to use the ridges and just let go to let the natural shape dictate the animal position rather than me. I am not the best artist but I think it was still a very fun study and replica of one our very first works in the class.

Why did I choose this work to recreate?
As previously mentioned, I was actually going to do the Apollo 11 Stones at first but when I found this large rock I still had that idea. However, when I threw it on the ground to break it up to procure a smaller space to work on for the handheld stones meant to travel it broke so jaggedly and with so much texture I decided for something to match that natural formation that occurred when I threw the rock down. I knew I wanted a cat because of my general motif in this project so I let the ridges find a head, feet, and tail lumps with a ridge along the back creating a standing up position for the cat. This was the first work I thought of when the concept of recreating any of the 250 came to mind. I knew it would be an easy photo shoot and would let me use a simple form to experiment with in positioning, lighting, etc to find a nice base. I also do not really know how to use editing software and was going to cut each image out by hand and layer to create similar backgrounds to the recreated work but this case, as the first case, came out with a rather fuzzy resolution on paper for I opted for online editing which I had never done before. I tried many websites before just trying my hand with "drawing" on top of the work to emphasize what parts of the image I felt best called to the recreated work. I used Google Drawings for this particular one because it was free and accessible and looked user friendly for someone new to the digital editing market. I decided to change the color of the work to be a bit more dismal because of the function of the original work I was trying to emulate and the targeting lighting on its own was not quite enough for me. With a more stoic lighting I drew around the body to highlight the hunched shape and I even sat on a cat condo similarly colored and textured to the wooden and burlap seat for the figure which was also highlighted. From there I made sure to wear a dark shirt, which I used for all my human figure images because I thought it would be easiest to edit, that was wrong but it came in handy for this one at least. I drew on the back to create the wrinkles and folds from the recreated work and emphasized the underarm shadow as well as the butt shape and shadow where the figure rests. From there I edited it into a circle shape to cut out more unwanted background and added a circle shape around it to add a layer of white to emulate the bright white from the CED and added a dark background. I did leave the lines more unruly to connect the digital and picture aspects as an interesting personal choice that I hope comes across fine in the final image. The recreated work itself is very stylistic on its own but I feel my touch here adds something modern and expresses my learning through what I can personally amount to a figure study of a very meaningful hunched back. 

Why did I choose this work to recreate?
I chose this image to recreate because of two reasons. The impact it had on me when I saw it for the first tie in the CED as well as its beautiful simplicity that I knew would be a great learning opportunity for me and this project. This was one of the only works that just sunned me when I saw it, I did not know the function or context, but its appearance was undeniable and I felt the emotion and exhaustion from the work. It just resonated with me and I fell in love with it and even did further research on the artist and her Backs series and what they mean to her. Also by this time the model cat was rather irate and had enough of being held and positioned. Pictured is her wanting a break from being held with a very tired face. This one was a very simple photo shoot and it did come back on me when trying to edit it. As mentioned previously as well, I was first planning on printing and cutting up multiple versions of images and backgrounds to collage an end result but the visual quality was very bad so I had to opt for online alterations. Here I used a more decorative background compared to other works because I wanted to help express the gazing look paired with a full but neat background. I also wanted to work in a fun little lithograph that is seen behind me in the final image. It was just a fun little inclusion but that is a Thomas Kinkade that I won in a raffle in 2018 and I am very proud of it as my first ever personally owned artwork and I wanted to have some fun with this project and include the works of art around me that helped spark my love and passion for art itself and the ideas for the project. So firstly I took a simple gazing photo of me with the cat instead of the scale, I even tried to hold the cat similarly to the way she held the scale, delicately as possible. The only materials used were basic clothes I planned to edit over, me, my cat, a full but organized background, and some lighting towards my face meant to express the window the woman is near in the recreated work. Then I edited over the image using basic shapes and some pngs of bonnets and Jean Jackets meshed together to have a call to the bonnet of the recreated work while also keeping the blue of the dress but add something new with the jean jacket. I also used that png chopped up and layered as the blue cloth laying on the table similarly to the recreated work as well.

Why did I choose this work to recreate?
Overall the creation process was probably the most off the cuff and random work because each of the other selected works had some inspiration or creative thought process behind them but this one was more of a random work that I personally just liked and thought it would be cute to recreate. But the scale being held so softly and the beauty of the room being apart of the work rather than just a close up of the woman made we want to incorporate a modern living room background to show more of a current representation of what something like this could look like in modern day, more cozy and busy as a juxtaposition in a still frame. This was definitely one of the two ideas I had after the establishment of the cat motif I was most excited for, the other being Pink Panther. It took a solid ten minutes, many treats, and begging to get her still for the photo I needed. So I took a nice photo of my irate cat and wanted to do a Marilyn Diptych take. I did not just want to take the same image, same color and edit the lighting and contrast so I did another spin and changed the colors of the two five by five grids to be rainbow colored only missing purple to keep the recreated work's original image count. I tried my best to mimic the different types of changes in color and lighting as well as keeping the defining line separating the the grids. I just used google drawings and changed each aspect image by image until all fifty made me happy. I know that one was in color and the other black and white but I wanted to keep each row's color to help extenuate the changes happening to each image row by row. It was such a cute idea and I am so happy with it, the image by image editing took a little longer than I hoped for but this is one my favorite but simple creations ever. I feel if I get even better with editing in the future I could return and give it an even better attempt with different software and techniques. 

Why did I choose this work to recreate?
After I decided on my cat motif I scrolled through the entire CED and wrote down all the possible works I could substitute a cat in for and Marilyn Diptych stuck out and I thought "What if I did that but with a cat and made it rainbow" and thus my idea took form. It is so bright and cute so I am happy I chose this color scheme. I know the original had a weight to the choice to making one side pop colors and the other a fading black and white to represent the blight of the public eye on famous people like Ms.Monroe and how her death in particular was eaten alive by the media. This was, of course, my cat so I simply took an iconic style and shifted the tone. This was probably the silliest but I feel it fits the purpose and aura of kitsch so well, it is just such an absurd dadaist idea on my part that takes the tackiness of Koons one step further and rockets it into the silly art future we seem to live in sometimes. I let my cat rest on my shoulder and got her to look at the camera and from there I uploaded the image, gave me (the model holding the cat) a nice yellow wig, and the blue skirt wrapping. I wanted to do the back shot so the focus would be on the theme, the cat. This work was the easiest to shoot the photo for and was the easiest to edit because I did not need to make any lighting edits in the work, just some physical appearance changes.

Why did I choose this work to recreate?
Once I had settled on my little cat motif this work instantly came to mind because it already had a cat incorporated and I thought it would be cute to have my cat looking over my shoulder for a nice recreation. I also love Koons, I really enjoy tacky things and pop culture so his works are some of the most recognizable for me.
