Winnie Foster is the main character of the story. Her father owns the Wood and her mother and grandmother expect her to act like a lady. Winnie lives in the touch-me-not cottage and she has never really been outside the gate before.
Jesse Tuck is the youngest son of Tuck and Mae Tuck. Jesse drank from the special spring that gave him eternal life when he was 17. Even though he looks 17, he is actually 140 years old! Ever since he drank from the spring, he has lived in TreeGap. Jesse also guards the spring so that nobody drinks it. 
Mae Tuck has a husband, Tuck, and two sons, Jesse and Miles. She and Tuck live in a small cottage in the Wood. She is always very kind to Winnie and keeps a special music box in her pocket. 
Tuck is Mae Tuck's husband and is Jesse's and Mile's father. He isn't always happy and doesn't like to talk much ever since he got eternal life. 
The Man in the Yellow Suit, the stranger, wants to sell the spring water for a fortune. He is mysterious and there is not much about him.
