Be it academic or social, the children are supported by being allocated a mentor, individually or as part of a group. I volunteer as a mentor. It has provoked my thinking. what are the differences when it comes to mentoring children and adults? Are there any at all? Do the core principles of mentoring remain the same? I'm discovering that maybe there are differences, I'll post back here with my thoughts in a week or two as I'm still learning the role. Tom.V.

Following on from last weeks EPC session, I found this piece intresting. Bordin (1983) considers a working based alliance model of supervision. At first, it seems dated but what he is considering is the empowerment for both the supervisor and the supervisee and ultimatley the added benefit to the client of the strong supervisory relationship between the two. https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/handle/2027.42/68473/10.1177_0011000083111007.pdf?sequence=2

The virtual college offers a range of free courses which can be classed as CPD if you need it...

I've done a couple of these this morning.

I'll say the 'Understanding Young Minds' was quite a difficult topic to work through as it addresses self-harm and emotional resilience. Although it is aimed at parents for their children, it can also be applied for all ages in a range of professions. The course content has been written by the charity SelfHarmUK, and they have ensured there is a "Safe Space" if it gets a bit too overwhelming and you need a breather. If you click on the safe space logo to take a break from the course it plays calming music, allowing you to take a moment.

There are a couple of other hard hitting subjects so I'll advise that you do these only if you feel in the right headspace to do them. I had to take a few moments with the course above, but that's okay. I think it'll always be a difficult subject for me but hopefully it's helping me build my own emotional resilience for talking about it!
