“Connected, But Alone” talk is all about the impact of technology nowadays. We get easily get in touch by just one click of it. We use it at all times. How easy it is to engage in conversation and start relationship because of it. They spend more time on virtual world rather than focus on the real world. Its like physically together, mentally out. Our communication with other people has been different ever since the technology has evolved.

Technology has always been there for us whenever we are lonely. However, we do not see that technology has cause us to be lonely. Turkle points out that if we do not have the capacity to be alone, we are going to be lonelier. Technology has ruined our ways of communicating with one another.

In this generation most of us using social media and gadgets. In short we are living in the world of full of screens, although we can’t deny the fact social media helps us many ways like posting our feelings/problems to ease the pain, easily to do our works, communicate easily with our friends but somehow it has also disadvantages like the wrong use of the internet, can be use in crime or too much information post on social media will put you in danger but the most affected here is our verbal communication with our parents.

People prefer texting or chatting rather than communicating with one another. Like me, as an experience I prefer using technology to say “I love you” and “I miss you” on my parents because I was shy to say it on personal. When a group of people goes out, you would see that they are just using their mobile phones instead talking with each other.

We have a lot of friends on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) but when we have a problem we just lye on our bed and cry. That’s why many teenagers now a days have suffering in anxiety and depressions because of lack of verbal communication that is why verbal communication is important to build a strong relationship.

We are so dependent on technology. Even the mom’s they use their mobile phones to stop their child in crying or in tantrums. Kids are now getting addicted to the technology, instead of playing outside and interact with other kids they just chose to stay at home and play computer games. However, technology can be use to keep our families connected specially the OFW parents they use technology to ease the loneliness they feel.

It is clear to say that technology has fully impacted our lives. Sherry Turkle’s “Connected but alone?” was a great talk. She fully explained and made great points how technology has affected our ways of communicating. Even though technology has affected our communications with another, let us still have good and meaningful talks with other people. Let us also not be dependent on technology. Technology will not always be there for us; we need to be able to have solitude within us.
