What is the book about?

Protagonists: Kazu, the waitress, the only person who has the ability to send people back in time. Nagare, Kazu's cousin, the owner of the cafe. Kei, Nagare's wife.

More about the plot: In order to go back in time, one must be seating in a particular seat in the cafe. However, that seat seems to always be taken by a ghost of a woman who its there all day long reading her book. One has one chance everyday to get to that seat, when the ghost gets up to use the washroom. Once one gets that seat, they can only travel back in time if Kazu, the waitress, pours them a cup of coffee. Once one back in time, they cannot leave their seat at all times. If they leave their seat, they will instantly be propelled back to present day. Therefore, one can only meet people who have actually visited the cafe before, in the past. No matter how hard one tries, they will never be able to change the present. This means that they cannot stop things that they know already happened. Most importantly, there is a time limit. One must make sure to return to the present before the coffee gets cold. This novel is made up of for different vignettes of characters who want to travel back in time for various reasons; Fumuko, who wants to redo the last conversation she had with her ex-boyfriend even though shes aware hat she cannot change the outcome of her relationship. As well as a man suffering from Alzheimer's who wants to go back and give his wife a letter. One of the cafe regulars, Hirai, who wants to go back to meet her sister who passed on in a car accident, tortured by the fact that she refused to see her the last time that she visited. As for the last story, Kei, Nagare's wife, who wishes to travel to the future rather than the past.

My opinion about the book

Strengths: I love how the plot is very simple but has a rather unique touch and concept to it, this allows y attention to constantly be attracted, without getting bored or confused by the plot. This novel allows me to comfortably read it due to its simplicity, without much complex ideas as i am one who tends to go astray when the plot of a story gets too complicated.

Weakness: the only thing i do not prefer about this novel is that it is rather predictable.

Overall, I love the fact that changing the present was not the main objective of the novel, and that something else is much more meaningful than the hanging of the present itself. I really enjoyed my time reading this novel, and would definitely reread it, as well as read the other 2 books that were published in relation to this novel.

I would definitely recommend this to others, especially if you are looking for a short yet refreshing novel to read.

How I can apply this in my writing

Due to the highly descriptive characteristics of this novel, reading this book felt more like I was witnessing a play rather than a novel. The many show-not-tells had let me further understand the storyline and immerse myself into the plot of this book. Through this novel, I am reminded of how I can further use these techniques of writing into my Personal Recounts much more in the future.
