Competency Statement IV

To establish positive and productive relationships with families. Nine.

My goal as a Headstart teacher is to help children grow academically and mentally strong for a brighter future. My goal is to get the parents to trust and talk to me about the children’s educational needs. Also to inform the parents of the weekly learning lessons, so it can be practiced at home.

By giving out papers weekly to take home, we ensure the parents are taking action on the kids learning. Asking them to practice at home at least fifteen minutes. Sending text message to every guardian is another way we get to the parents, to inform them on upcoming events and activities done in the classroom.

Being a bilingual teacher, I have to speak to parents who come from a different background and culture therefore, I’ll explain to them what we are learning that week, and what needs to be practiced at home to help with children’s learning.

When families enter classroom I’ll greet them, making them feel welcome. I also encourage parents to come in and join us anytime they would like. When talking to parents, I speak about the child’s development. If there is a problem with their children development or behavior, I informed the parents of the situation and together make a decision that will meet the child’s needs. To keep it productive relationship with the families I’ll talk to them on a regular basis. I’ll offer parents information about Health, social services, and other resources that are available. I let the families know that anything we discuss is kept under confidence.

Competency Statement V

To insure a well-run, purposeful program, responsive to participant needs.

Working with well educated teachers. I understand the responsibility in running a successful classroom. I take daily observations that can help my teacher plan for her lesson plans or individual plans for the children. Our center provides many resources for the children to use, to help them with the areas they may need individual help with. The parents fill out an information sheet on their child at registration. We use this sheet to learn about the child strength and weaknesses.

I speak or help with children that are bilingual I keep up-to-date records on the children. I checked to see if all the forms are completed and in the proper place.

Young children need age appropriate material and is important in the classroom and early stage learning. All of the activities are planned for the age group I work and care for. Organization and consistency help the program run well. In the classroom, files are kept orderly and up-to-date. We keep everything in order with appropriate labels. Eliminating any clutter and disorder, helping the children have a good and educational time.

My goal in the classroom is to set a standard of excellence with in my facility, and to commit myself to the growth and development of each child, in offering a positive, kind, loving and safe atmosphere . I have respect, not only for myself but, for my center, each child, and their families. I treat each child with respect and help them to build a positive self image. Being ready to assist any child with any need they may have. I feel it is important to always stay positive, and keep a smile on your face.
