The Benefits of Worship

This week, I learned about the benefits of worship.

Definition of Worship: Doing something to seek the pleasure of Allah.

Worship is divided into two categories:

General Worship (Ibadah ‘Am) – General acts done to seek Allah’s pleasure, such as giving charity.

Specific Worship (Ibadah Khas) – Acts that Allah has commanded His servants to perform, such as prayer and fasting in Ramadan.

Examples of the Benefits of Worship:

Prayer (Solat):

Prevents a person from engaging in immoral and sinful acts.

Helps maintain physical health.

Fasting (Sawm):

Controls one’s desires.

Increases piety and empathy for the less fortunate.

Zakat:

Purifies wealth and the soul.

Hajj:

Teaches discipline in fulfilling its rituals.

Conclusion:

All the benefits of worship ultimately return to the individual. Therefore, we must be sincere in performing acts of worship. Entering Paradise is not merely because of worship but due to Allah’s mercy. However, to attain His mercy, we need to engage in worship.

Today, I was introduced to the moral values that can be found in prayer, which are cultivated through a focused and sincere Salah.

Among the spiritual gems of Salah are:

Al-Tanah – A person will be fearful of committing mistakes.

Al-Jihad – A person will strive to attain Allah’s pleasure.

Taaddu’ – A sense of humility and a desire for self-improvement.

Muhasabah – Self-reflection to correct and improve oneself.

Iffah – Resisting sinful acts as a result of self-reflection.

In conclusion, Salah is a servant’s connection with Allah. Therefore, the values gained from prayer encompass every aspect of life, guiding us toward success in both this world and the hereafter.
