Generally, recovery means to return to a normal state of health, mind or strength. However, within mental health, recovery can be described as the body and mind having time to heal and not experiencing the same level of mental illness as before. Any improvement is recovery as sufferers of mental illness are likely not able to be the individual they once were.

The mental health nurse is responsible for administering medication and maintaining accurate care plans and documentation. In regard to recovery, the mental health nurses’ job is to engage and support patients to regain their place in community through the use of OT, implement care that is person-centred and put a discharge plan in place if the patient is sectioned in an hospital.

Recovery is the importance of returning to a normal state of health and mind. The recovery model argues the importance of building the resilience of people with mental health issues and helping in order to support them and their self-esteem.

Important factors for recovery: good relationships, satisfying work, personal growth, the right living environment.

Mental health nurses help to provide support and medical care to those that have a range of mental health issues.

They support people with issues ranging from anxiety and depression to addiction and personality disorders. Mental health nurses build relationships with people in order to support and monitor their mental health, know what the potential triggers are and watch for relapse signs. They also facilitate personal adaption e.g. Help the person to gain confidence, self-belief and recognise skills and their own ambitions to work towards.

Recovery is very person-specific. It isn't about going back to a pre-diagnostic state, it's about learning to cope with the illness and take control of your life again.
Recovery emphasises the importance of hope, not focusing on the illness but on their future hopes and aspirations. Instead of seeing recovery as an end product, it's a process that is achieved through smaller steps. It's important when experiencing a set back to remember how far you've come.
