If you could change one thing in South Africa's education system, would it be a policy change, a change to curriculum, additional training, and why do you think this change is important for you?

this is important, as we need to engage with relevant matters that are applicable to us as South Africans. Why do we look at the international countries and try to follow suit? we have so much to offer our own learners in our turf.

I think they should change the curriculum to accommodate learners with barriers. Some learners will not be able to succeed in what others do. If teachers sit together and work on the curriculum to have quality and equality education for learners, schools will probably also be more respected.

If I could change something about our schools, it would be the structure of the day to allow more flexibility for all. Students who want to start late could. Staffing would be flexible too! Classes could also be flexible, with some delivered by other means along with traditional classroom instruction.
Bronwen Butler Hendricks
22212549

There are many changes that could be made, in order for our education system to be more accommodating to learner's with barriers and for teachers as well. Due to our inflexible curriculum, we have many learner's falling behind and re-testing is required which leads to teacher burn-outs. I believe an inclusive classroom or environment is led by a happy teacher.

I feel that there needs to be additional training for teachers as even if the curriculum changes, if teachers don't understand it they can't teach it. I feel that training should be incorporated into our Varsity to help build teachers confidence before they even step into the classroom. Teachers need to be able to accommodate all learners.
Hannah Banfield

I believe the standardized national tests presented to learners are one direct contribution to the crises we have concerning the practices by teachers.
The evaluation does not consider the different backgrounds of schooling experienced by learners. Teacher are forced to simply conduct a teacher-centered approach to find themselves competent with the set outcomes. This does not give learners a chance to show their critical thinking.
