Page 320:
Analyze the Text:
1. Roger does not want to be mistrusted because he does not want Mrs. Jones to take him to the police station or to think he is a criminal.
2. We found that the part where Mrs. Jones gave Roger the money was very surprising because Roger had previously tried robbing Mrs. Jones.
3. Mrs. Jones was friendly to Roger even after he tried robbing her and this shows Roger that people can trust others beside their weaknesses.
Concept Vocabulary
Page 320
Why These words
All of these words are connected by the sense of touch. another word that is connected is Touch.
Practice
1. You must have a permit to drive in ew York.
2. I had a strong grip on my teddy bear before I released it.
3. I came in contact with an old friend from school.
Word Study
Permit- give authorization or consent to (someone) to do something.
1. An official document giving someone authorization to do something.
2. Give authorization or consent to (someone) to do something.
Release- The act of letting go
1. Allow (something) to move, act, or flow freely.
2. The action of making a movie, recording, or other product available for general viewing or purchase.
Analyze Craft and Structure
Page 321 Exposition: Paragraph 1 lines 1-3
Rising Action: Paragraphs: 1-13 (Paragraph 1 lines 4- the end).
Climax- Paragraph 14-23
Falling Action: paragraphs 24-39
Resolution: Paragraphs 40-46
1. A. Paragraphs 9-11, and Paragraphs 4-7.
B. These add to the rising action because they give Mrs. Jones a reason to be mad at roger and it makes roger not like Mrs. Jones.
2. The climax or turning point are shown when Roger and Mrs. Jones start connecting and stop hating each other. This is a turning point because it is when the falling acation starts.
3. I think the resolution is not satisfactory because I feel that Roger and Mrs. Jones should have had a longer relationship instead of just that one instance.
Conventions
Page 322
Read It:
Example 1: She was a large women with a large purse that had everything in it but a hammer and nails.
Example 2: Sweat popped out on the boys face and he began to struggle.
Example 3: In Another corner of the room behind a screen was a gas plate and an icebox.
Example 4: Watch her purse, which she left behind her on the bed.
WRITE IT
A person who has a positive impact in my life is my teacher Mrs. Koppel. Her room is in the hallway with the blue lockers. She has a lot of desks positioned next to each other. Mrs. Koppel is very confusing when she gives directions but still helps me to get better at my English skills. Mrs. Koppel helps everyone Mrs. Koppel sits in her desk in the corner of the room on the opposite side of the room. English is my favorite class because of Mrs. Koppel's attitude.

Analyze the Text
Page 328
1. In paragraphs 7-14 of the story the narrator goes upstairs to tell her parents that she had found a amoeba. Her parents tell her that they would not like to see it because they do not care. She realizes that her parents did not really care that she had found an amoeba. This realization affects her because she realizes that she is on her own and she has no one with her.
2. I think that the part where the narrator is explaining all of the parts that came with the kit and all the experiments she tried and that some of them didn't work.
3. This memoir shows that at one point in someones life they are going to realize that they are alone and that they have to do things on their own. parents are just there to provide. Some parents support and care about what the child is doing and are excited for the child but some just provide.
Technical Vocabulary
Page 328
Why These Words
These words are all science or experiment related. Another word that would fit this vocabulary is microscope.
Practice
Tissue - Any of the distinct types of material of which animals or plants are made, consisting of specialized cells and their products.
The animal tissue was being dissected to find out how the animal died.
Enlarged - Make or become bigger or more extensive.
The cell enlarged before it split into two cells.
Amoeba - A single-celled animal that catches food and moves about by extending finger like projections of protoplasm. Amoebas are either free-living in damp environments or parasitic.
The amoeba was soaking up the water and growing bigger.
Word Study
Enable - to be able
Able - having the power to do something
Enact - to act
Act - to take action
Endanger - to be in danger
anger - something that is not good

Analyze Craft and Structure
Practice
1-7
Interactions: The narrator is doing experiments with her new microscope and finds an amoeba like she wanted to.
Dillard's Thoughts: She was very happy that she got the microscope kit and that she was able to see an amoeba
My thoughts: I think she has a very big imagination
8-11
Interactions: The narrator goes upstairs after finding the amoeba and tells her parents to come down and see it. Her parents tell her that they will not and that they are not interested in that sort of thing.
Dillard's Thoughts: She probably thinks that her parents don't care and is realizing that her parents only provide for her.
My thoughts: I think that her parents should have at least been happy for her and looked at it instead of not caring at all.
12-14
Interactions: The narrator realizes she had her own life ahead of her and that she can do whatever she wants.
Dillard's Thoughts: She thinks that she has much more potential and that she can choose to do whatever she wants
My Thoughts: I think this is a great learning experience because it is when she must become responsible for herself.
1. a. Acentral idea is that at one point in someones life you have to grow up and realize that not everyone cares what you do. b. Another central idea is that sometimes life changing events can be caused by little things. c. These themes are shown in the story after Dillard speaks to her parents about her finding and she gets shot down.
2. Yes I believe that Dillard succeed in writing a reflection because after she tells the experience she talks about how that effected her and her life.
Conventions
Example 1: Detectives used microscopes, both for the FBI and at Scotland Yard.
Example 2: The booklet said it was composed of siliceous bodies of diatoms -- one-celled creatures that lived in, as it were, small glass jewelry boxes with fitted lids.
Example 3: He was as blobby and grainy as his picture.

Write it
I am very good at playing the Violin, I have learned many complicated pieces. One of those pieces is Called Canon In D Written by Johann Pachelbel, a famous music composer. A piece I am Learning is a Medley, a selection made up of many selections put together, called Sleigh Ride Jingles.

Close Review

Analyze the Media
1. Photo number 3 was the photo that stood out most to me. The garden is on top of a building in New York City. The chef of the building is in the photo, he looks happy and proud of the garden. One of my questions is, why did they decide to put a garden on the roof and how long has the garden been there?
2. The more I look at the photos, the more I understand what Urban Farming is. They increase my understanding because in each photo they are each in a different location, but each location used to be trashed and unpopular. They all have something special about it so I understand that people are recycling the land and giving the land use.
3.
Concept Vocabulary
