The article “Looking Back: Migrant children talk about learning English” from ABC Education offers a historical perspective on Australia's approach to integrating migrant communities, particularly through language education. By revisiting a 1986 'Behind the News' report, it highlights the experiences of children at the Intensive Language & Reception Centre in Sydney, shedding light on the challenges and support systems in place at the time.

This reflection underscores Australia's commitment to multiculturalism and the importance of providing tailored educational support to ensure that migrant children can successfully adapt and thrive in their new environment.

I am not extremely informed about the relationship between the Philippines and Australia however by choosing to explore the experiences of Filipino migrants in Australia it allows for a deeper understanding of the shared histories and evolving relationship between our two nations. I do know that the Philippines is a key neighbour in the Asia-Pacific region and has a growing migrant population in Australia that has made significant cultural and educational contributions.

By examining their migration history, educational values, and school experiences it allows me to develop my knowledge and cultural awareness which will allow me to positively support my future diverse learners and promote inclusive practices in the classroom.

I would like to deepen my understanding of the relationship between the Philippines and Australia. I already have some knowledge about the Filipino community in Australia and have experienced aspects of their culture through friendships, food, and social gatherings. By choosing to explore the Philippines' relationship with Australia, I hope to better understand our shared histories and how these have shaped current connections between the two countries. Developing a deeper understanding of the experiences of Filipino migrants will also help me build greater cultural awareness and empathy. This is especially important in creating stronger connections with students and supporting learners from diverse backgrounds in the classroom.
