My family has some similarities but over time they changed their lifestyle. By that I mean they did struggle but dealt with it differently by some of my parents coming to the U.S and started being more mature and working at the age of 13-14, so did not really had time to fully experience their childhood. My mom was used to working at a young age so would want us to work early when we lived in mexico when she was a single mother. Later on changed when we came to u.s so the only relative subject to was being poor and having different ways of education and dealing with it.

In Jeannette's life her education at 5-6 years old and younger they way she was educated by her parents. They were teaching her how to be mature she did have time where she could act like a child for her age but mostly she had to be really independent and couldn't cry to certain things. But aside from the sad things she had a better school education even thought she was home schooled most of her life her parent weren't quite dumb. She also knew how to cook simple things but hard for three years old mostly if they did not focus enough could go wrong which happens to her but did not suffer a lot of trauma but a little bit. But what I'm trying to state is that she was really intelligent and a bit mature for her age from the way her parents teach her and her siblings.

The quote that stuck out for me the most was on page 38, " It's the Joshua tree's struggle that gives it beauty", what was going on before this quote was said by her mother, Jeannette was trying to protect the tree and make its life less struggling by that she told her mother all the good things she wanted to do to the tree to help it. But her mother frowned at her because if it doesn't struggle once in its life how will it know how to truly live beautifully and strong. The reason it stood out to me was that sentence almost reflected in how she teaches her kids to grow up.

In the page 29-30 I would like the author to show were her parents truly scared or even bothered once they found out Jeannette fell flying out of the car, because they did not bother is asking her if she okay and worried to death about her. Later on in in the beginning page 9 Jeannette was very young and doing more mature things and knowing how to do them, this page shows how her parents expected her and her siblings to know how to handle and deal with stuff by themselves. Throughout the page little Jeannette looks up to her father a lot and his hero image so she talks a lot about how her father is so handsome, he is perfect and compliments him often through out he pages I have read so far.

Throughout page 54-101 I have a really different perspective of how Jeanette views her father as a really amazing and good father, smart and just looks up to him. But in my opinion I see the way he treats his kids is not normal parenting is mostly just teaching them to act way more mature and has too much expectations from them even thought they are just kids so they really cant act like kids in certain times because of his parenting style.

I think readers might think differently because of the era they grew up in. Because I noticed this type of parenting that is shown by Jeanette parents seem to target older mother parents they think making their children harder will make them stronger, but most of the time in reality it will only make the child wish they never knew you. One of the story lines that affects me in the book is also with the teaching style mainly when I lived with my ex-step dad his parenting style was a bit tough and rarely gave us attention so he was more like the mom of Jeanette.

One of the quotes that stood out to me the most was in page 78, where Brian said that I think most of the audience that is reading this book would think of the dad. In the quote his dad states,"Have I ever let you down?" he asked Brian and me then turned and walked away.

In a voice so low that Dad didn't hear him, Brian said,"Yes".

It really stood out to me because I wonder if one the sibling truly despises their parents for not trying to a least be a responsible and good image and just a best-friend to them.

I have noticed that Jeanette and her sibling Health, may not be as healthy because they often show in the book that there are days where they have to starve for a very long time. Their parents did not bother in getting them the right food,nutrition basic cooking because her mother stated it was a waste of time if it was going to be finished fast.Once Jeanette and Lori were eating margarine which cannot be quite healthy if eating alone but they were really hungry so had to eat it. Then both got caught and Jeannette told out loud she was hungry the mother just looked at her in sadness thinking they were okay all along but at the sometime she started making Jeanette guilty for being hungry.

I do not have any familiar experiences with this type of health care since my family does care for us actually. But I learned how Jeanette and her siblings struggle in silence for example them getting hurt having to act like everything is okay when is actually not and when they confess their true feeling their parents short of make them feel guilty for it.

I have not experienced any of what Jeannette and her family had gone through here. But i learned how their parents are the way they are now because of the parenting style their own parents thought Jeannette parents.

Throughout page 142-143 Rex parents are really racist, which means they really have a hatred towards the black community. When Jeannette was heading to a friend all of the sudden her uncle Stanley got annoyed where Jeannette was heading and called it the N-word Village. Later on when Jeannette came home Her crazy grandma Erma was had a big hatred towards black people saying how Welch gone down hill because of them even they were walking minding their business she would just call them slurs and be annoyed by their existent. Of course Jeannette was taught to never use that word because it was worse than a curse word but couldn't do anything about it because it was her grandma and her house and her rules.

The quote that stood out to me a lot was on page 148 where Jeanette said, "Dad was really weird," I said, because someone had to say it.
"You'd be weird, too, if Erma was your mom," Lori said.
"Do you think she ever did something to Dad like what she did to
Brian?" I asked.

It stood out to the most because after what Jeanette said is her dad the way he is now because of his mother. Now it seems understandable why Rex did not like talking about his parents or even wanted to go with them and may explain the reason for his behavior throughout this book.

Throughout page 101-154 I have noticed that the character have been aware of the economic and social forces that affected their life when in page 146 their grandma Erma was molesting their bother Brian, and when they tried to tell their father he did not do anything about it and ignored it and got mad at them for protecting them selves from her. That made them wonder if she ever did that to his own son Rex and made him the way he is now. Their poverty has been affecting them by struggling to maintain themselves not having their own house car or even available to afford clothes or even food so they starve themselves often, having to live on someones else home for example their crazy grandma Erma.

I do quite share experiences of how her Rose Mary tries to make her kids look on the positive side more and be grateful. But my mother does it in a good way because I often complained for normal children like why we always moving around and food and this and that but my mother made me not feel guilty for feeling those feeling but made me understand I'm very lucky that has passed and tomorrow is a new day and not always you are going to have a fine life.

A quote that stood out to me the most throughout out of pages 155-179 is in page 177 where Jeannette first starts with, "I hate winter", I told mom. "All seasons have something to offer," She said.( Rose Mary, Jeannette Walls) It stood out to me the most because this quote shows Rose Mary, rarely make anything negative and makes bad things look good and good things they have offer.

Throughout page 155-179 I have read so far that the reason the characters behavior personality is like now in the book. For example the reason Jeannette emphasizes people even though they do her wrong, She still sees a good in the because Rose Mary teaches her to not view on people low how she said in page 156 about rats they need to eat too, which rats are only view as nasty and creepy and not for their true self or why they are like the way they are.
