According to the Payroll Deductions section of this book, Gross pay is said to be, “ the total for regular salary or hourly wages, overtime pay, commissions and bonuses earned. Gross pay refers to the amount of earned income before any deductions for federal and state income taxes, social security or medicare” (Payroll Deductions pg13.) This means that this amount of pay will be higher than the net pay because it is calculated before any of the reduced money.

The book also mentions another rate of pay called Net pay. The book states, “Net pay is the amount of earned wages that workers actually take home each pay period” (Payroll Deductions pg14.) This means that the Net pay includes all of the money taken out for taxes and other programs. The higher the check the more will be taken out.

This amount would be the amount before taxes and without deductions meaning it will be more than what I actually earn.
