I grade everything on a 4-point scale. Even when an assignment is out of 20 points total, the rubric is broken into 4 points for each criteria to easily show mastery. I allow students to fix and resubmit their work as many times as necessary so that they can learn from their mistakes, but if I notice they try an assignment more than three times, I won't let them submit it again until we go through it together to make sure they understand the content and assignment. I don't dock for late submissions because I feel like their grade should reflect what they know.

Making Skyward my rubric. It has changed everything and is so much more simple and really shows where the kids are thriving and needing the extra help quickly. it also doesn't feel so imposing when they see they got a 50% on a huge test. They know that that 1 assessment they did for me is broken out and they can just redo what they are not getting vs redoing the whole thing.
