The Butterfly Effect is a movie that causes me to think about psychology in society as it encompasses and showcases numerous types of experiences and events that are both very significant and traumatic for the characters in the movie. 
The movie is loosely based on the concept that lies within Chaos Theory, largely a physics based theory but one which also can be linked to psychology and sociology. From a psychological aspect the theory states that even the smallest events or actions can cause very significant effects or outcomes. Sociologically the theory refers to the the study of complex social systems and how events and actions impact within social constructs.
The disturbing events in the movie demonstrate to me the impact these encounters have  both psychologically on the characters, and the implications that arise for their futures going forward in society.For example, three of the characters, a brother and sister and their friend, are lured in to child porn videos instigated by the siblings' father. This has both diverse and devastating effects for each of the characters involved. It is the diversity in each characters' reactions, and consequently their behaviours, which give rise to examine and investigate further in to psychology in society. The distinctive difference in perceptions and resulting behaviours of each individual character  through the shared experience of the same event can be transferred to society as a whole and lends a better understanding to how different people react to different occurrences within in society. In the case of the characters, the girl, Kayleigh, is very deeply disturbed by the actions of her paedophile
