The dream of Perry is full of symbolic meaning. He dreamed of fighting with a snake in order to gain diamonds on trees. The failure of getting diamonds and the smell of the tree suggested a kind of self denial that he can't get rich in this way of robbery. But at the same time he wish to gain this treasure. The fight between the snake and him are the fight between his dream of getting rich and the dream of being a good man.

The “yellow “sort of parrot.” is more like a guardian angel to Perry. His action of telling Willie is a kind of dream to be rescued by Willie, and to be told that he deserves a good life, but Dick was the one Perry chose not to tell, maybe Dick also stands for the dream failed to rescue Perry.

The article illustrates the positive relationship between economic inequality and crime rate, including property crime and violent crime. As economic inequality may stimulate competition, people with lower income will be limited for achieving something (maybe something so-called “success”), and thus give rise to “a sense of hopeless which incited fear, violence and murder”. Also, society with high economic inequality may fail to prevent violence in communities, and the experience of “inferiority may make someone less inclined to behave in a socially desirable way”, and thus “aggressive behavior and high crime rates”.

From the perspective of “social inequality and individual revenge”, Perry’s murder of the family can be interpreted as a person’s subconscious revenge toward the unequal society without personal awareness and tendency. Perry has got a miserable childhood, lack of education and emotional cultivation…as he was born with a terrible family, which is the naturally given inequality for him in the society. He could never achieve success just as the farmer he had killed did because of this. Perry is like a knife which the winners of social inequality throw away into the rubbish bin. It bounced back and stabbed them, conducting its revenge to the inequality through violence and specifically, murdering the winner.
