1. As a teacher the whiteboards. Help with cognitive engagement to stay high.
2. With adults gives more time to pause and have conversations with each other. After teaching the true assessment is can my teachers go back and apply what they have learned in the classroom.

How do you work smarter not harder:
1. Understand the inference depending on what he is assessing. 
2. Don't assume that all kids are going to get the same score.

Story about being assessed:
Distance formula super long and didn't want to learn it. Realized that the distance formula is just the pathagoriam theory.

Personal definition of assessment: Getting to know what the kids know and how I'm going to use that information. "Show what you know, and what did I do today that they took away from or what do I need to do for tomorrow!"

Go to assessments: Biggest one is the exit tickets on everything. Do sticky notes quickly to show what they know and if they got it!! They can even tell her something on the way out the door, the quick what do you know.

How do you work smarter not harder: Make the kids do it and you won't have to do it. Sticky notes are your friends. Dry erase markers and boards. 

Story on where how and what you assessed had a an incredible impact: Summer school assessment every single day had the most impact on her because when they did do that she learn so much about her students and she herself learned a lot. 

Advice: Relationships build relationships. Give nicknames and build a connection to the student. Greet at the door. Have a little something with each student. There is  never ever too much time on doing procedures and rules! "Go slow to go Fast!"

Collaborate: It's not about me, it's about my team...The team will help you and you will work better together.

Small groups-I love this because even your high kids get that one on time and to grow. Personal definition of assessment: Assessment in anytime of your life is when you have a goal or objective and you assessing to see if I need to do this much more or if I have achieved my goal.

Go to assessment: Working off of the educator rubric. In the classroom the writing workshop rubric. Use a rubric so it will be across the board. Rubric to match my expectations of performance. Sometimes you need to make your own rubric. 

How do you work smarter not harder: Pertaining to assessment the rubric helps you to work smarter and not harder. When you have a rubric you know what the expectations are. From the other piece of assessment to know that we don't need a lot homework or in class work to know what we need to reteach. We don't have to grade everything to know where they are. Kids will do it without a grade to it.

Story: When I used writing workshop and we used a rubric and I made sure the kids had them in advanced. They could read the rubric and know exactly what they need to have on their paper to get a good grade. I love this especially with the older grades.

How do you work smarter not harder:  1st year teacher I worked harder because of not knowing a work/life balance. Set boundaries for yourself and set a day to play for the following week. Go to work early and work ahead. Take a part of the load with teammates. 

Go to Assessments: Hands-on that is fast and easy. Having a tool kit for all the kids for their assessments. Rules and routines!! Stand up park your car!!!

Advice: Be extra nice to the secretary and the custodian, make friends. Listen to your team and co-workers. It's all about us. Take a risk and try something new. Stay off your phone, your students need to see you and know that you're there for them. Don't take yourself too seriously. Number one tip: leave your home life at the door, and greet your kids at the door. How do you work smarter not harder: Be a team. To be successful is to be a team. Divide and conquer. Make sure you give your teammates compliments on their strengths.

Personal definition of assessment: I think of can the student apply the knowledge of what they were taught. Don't just teach the content and then expect them to write everything down, but use different ideas to know the knowledge and apply it. When your writing you assessment don't just bottle it in one area, but do different things to assess your students. 

Go to assessments: My go to assessments as a teacher are planning my lesson and how my whole week will look and start with the standards. What does that actually mean the standards. Use the standards and break them down to 4-5 ideas and make sure that the students knew what to expect. Test were always open-ended.

How do you work smarter not harder: Real important to go slow. As a new teacher you're gonna get a thousand of things thrown at you at one time. Definition of assessment: Estimation of the quality of something, the nature or something, snapshot of the student of that day. There is not an assessment out there that will tell you all that you need to learn about your students.

Go to assessment: Go to assessments are MTSS or RTI and looking at a good screener. Day to day exit tickets and assessments. Another thing is he looks at the students as all general education students whether they are sped. Use Cognitive assessments or Wisc!! 

How do you work smarter not harder: Have a process in which all team mates are working with. Teamwork make the dreamwork. Framework for figuring everything out and stick to it.  YOU'RE NOT ALONE!!!!

Story: Kiddo having a hard time perform because of being in the foster program, but has been in a stable home for the past 6 months. Did further assessments and looking at cognitive skills and he blew them out of the water and change how they went about teaching them and understand how the impact of trauma and work with his new family. To figure out how we worked with his needs going forward. 

HUMANITY: They are not just test scores!!!

Greatest advice: Respect your impact!!! Students will look to you form relationships and those relationships are HUGE!!
