If he uses his laser for too long, his stomach starts to cramp rendering him defenseless against his opponent. His replacement would be Itsuka Kendo. Her quirk is that she can make her fists huge. He also is a trained martial arts specialist. I'm not saying that his quirk is bad, it's just that there are other students that are more talented then him. Like Ibara Shiozaki. Her quirk lets her grow and manipulate the vines on her head at will.
