Checklist Examples by Type by Kaduk

Find one example of each type of checklist. Make an entry for each of the four checklist types doing the following steps: (1) Name the checklist and include the URL, putting it in the proper column, (2) Analyze what the checklist is assessing (3) Critique each checklist – what would you change? (4) List strengths of each checklist, (5) When could you use this checklist in an elementary setting?

The checklist is assessing the students actual behavior throughout the lesson/unit. The only thing that I would change is to not assign a point value rather just have a box to put a checkmark in. One strength of this is that there are many categories which means that the students have multiple chances to prove their behavior to the teacher. I would use this in upper elementary because it would allow for the students to strive toward expectations.

KR

I really like how the students are able to use facial expression to determine if they have worked toward the goal or not. I would have this specific checklist in primary grades because it is catered toward younger kids due to the facial expressions.

KR

Behavior checklists help students stay on track and ensure appropriate behavior throughout the day. These can be done individually as a students obtains more responsibility. These help teachers and students track progress of behavior and notice when/where support is needed. These also ensure the same expectations for the students that may work with different adults. One strength is that it is a comprehensive overview of behavior and not too focused on one point of the day. Lastly, I would add a few more point related to content classes.

Carly, Paige, Heidi

This checklist is for writing a letter. I really liked how the checklist is not overly complicated while covering everything that needs to be covered. I would use this to assess a students letter.

This checklist assesses the editing and proof reading process of elementary students in literacy. I really like this checklist, I think that all of the steps/criteria are clear and well written and it is easy to follow. The strengths of this checklist are that it is easy to follow, it is simple, each part of the editing/revision structure is clearly broken up into sections, and the design of it is easy to use. I would use this in upper elementary grade levels during writing. This realistically could be used for any kind of writing and and it can be used many times throughout the year.

This checklist allows students to assess their own behavior and academic abilities in a relatively private way. This is specific to spelling and phonics and would most likely be used in lower/middle elementary grades. I like that there are three answer options instead of just yes and no because it allows for students to have more flexible judgement about whether they have accomplished the skills or not. I would use this in middle elementary grade levels because realistically I don't think that first graders will be able to do these things and second grade might still working on those skills.
