1. Yes, depending the the department, I do have a voice in buying technology. In the E-Learning Lab (a department of 3), I have a say in buying new equipment, specifically cameras because I specialize in media production. In the colleges I work in, I do not have an influence.

2. No, my department did not provide training on the technology I currently use to complete my job. I was expected (and told during the interview) to train myself and I did using Lynda.com and by simply using the software and getting to know it.

3. If the technology does not fit into my current style of teaching or in this case designing, I work to find another technology that does. For instance, I am in need of an animation software and am having issues with making PowToons or GoAnimate work for what I need. When this happens, I research and talk to other designers to find out what they have used.

1. Since I am new to the district, I am uncertain who has the voice, although I would like to think they listen to the teachers. Who has the deciding vote I am uncertain, but they do consider what the teachers have to say.

2. When I taught before, no, I did not receive formal training. I learned by clicking and doing on my own, and then collaborating with other teachers on what they discovered as well.

3. If the district were to bring in new technology, and it did not fit into my teaching, I would politely decline it in my classroom, keeping things simple. I would not want the district to think I was using it just because it was in my own classroom.

1. Yes; I do get to help a little. There are also others who are considered as well.
2. Sometimes they do.
Software training is the most important, and most lacking.
3. If the software doesn't fit my needs OR if it is too difficult to redo the work to make the change, I wait and do it later. I mean, of course.

1. Probably some voice, but I don't really know for sure.
2. The "school" didn't necessarily, but I found a mentor that could answer questions.
3. I would either find a way to make it work, trade it off for what does work, or just keep doing what I am doing. It just depends on how far it is from my teaching style. I work for a private school, so I doubt I would end up with updated technology without asking me first.

1. We have had some voice in the purchase decision. Or at least we are led to believe we are. Often times we are guided by our IT guys. For example, they narrowed our LMS down to Canvas and Schoology and then we had a committee of 4 teachers, along with our IT guys spend time with both before deciding.
2. Formal training for technology other than Schoology was non-existent.
3. Honestly, I don't use technology that doesn't fit what I'm doing. And I don't ask for technology unless I know I'll use it. Case in point - I have an projector/apple tv that don't play nice together. My principal told me that I should request a smartboard and get rid of my projector (problem solved). He was ok that I would use a smart board simply for that.
I just can't do it. I want to make sure I'd use the smart board for more than that before I'll request it. I'm just not sure I would.
